— Jus Accardo, author of TOUCH

“Powerful. Addicting. Obsidian left me breathless [and] blew me away. I never in my wildest dreams ever thought I would or could fall head-over-heals in love with a story with aliens. Wipe away everything you have ever thought about aliens from your mind. Obsidian sets a new standard.”

From the Back Cover

No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger... and they know it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Opal December 4, 2012

**SPOLIERS FOR ONYX**

Wow-wee! Another wonderful book by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Opal is the third book of the Lux series, and the plot doesn't disappoint fans.

The last book ended with Dawson - Daemons twin brother - coming back from the dead. Opal revolves around Beth - Dawsons lover - and getting her back from the DOD who is holding her captive. Blake makes another entrance in this book and tries to help. Question is, should they trust him after his last betrayal?

Pros:
Holy romance, Batman! Katy and Daemons relationship still goes strong. The love they have is remarkable, and you can see how far Armentrout takes the relationship. In the first book Katy and Daemon (well... not so much Daemon) despised one another, but by this book you'll see the remarkable change. Both of them grow as a person because of each other. Katy - as she states in this book - has changed since Obsidian. She becomes a darker version of herself, not as happy-go-lucky. She's been through a lot these past books, and it's finally taking a toll on her. Daemon is still a cute, lovable, cocky guy, and Katy is kick-ass and a strong lead. Nothing gets past her. She's not someone that stays in the shadows. It's admirable how hard working and determined she becomes in order to fight with everyone else. Katy strives to be a better person, which is a trait I love!

There's a prequel called Shadows that revolve around Dawson and his love interest Bethany. I haven't read that book yet, but I've heard that he's very friendly, outgoing, and has fun humor. He's not the same person as Shadows in Opal. Since I have nothing to compare him to, it's hard to say what details are different. Dawson is shown as introverted and emotionally broken. His goal in this book is to get Beth back from the DOD, and his eye never wavers from that goal. You'll root for him... his love shows no bounds, and I can't wait to see what happens when they're together again.

The storyline kept you on your toes. Twist and turns were everywhere! Once you have everything figured out, the plot takes you in a different direction. It is not in anyway predictable. That is one of the aspects I love about Armentrouts writings. You never know what's going to happen next. The action scenes are hardcore, it's fast pace and keeps you engaged. None of the characters are one-dimensional. Everyone plays an important part in the story.

Cons:
First off, the word "awesome" was used to describe many things. "That was awesome", "He was awesome", "That object is awesome", ect. The choice of vocabulary was off as well. I don't know anyone who says the word "forevah", or "nom nom" in a sentence. I understand these words are used, but it's only in text-talk. She even had the term "WTF" in the middle of a sentence. This is a piece of literature my dear, not a text. You use wtf, ttyl, g2g and those abbreviations when you want to shorten your speech on the phone. The ACTUAL texts they send where abbreviated weird as well. I've never seen someone text the things Katy and Daemon typed.

Half of the book was Daemon and Katy either making out, cuddling, making out, arguing, pep talking, or making out. I love that their relationship is strong... it warms my heart. I found myself skipping some sentences because it was the same thing. Same words to describe what Katy was feeling, how Daemon was feeling, and I could skip a few pages back to get the same scenario. I understand fans like this and eat it up, and I'm totally there with you! It's just very repetitive.

I really enjoyed reading this book, it leaves you with a huge cliff hanger (which book of hers doesn't, eh?) and Origin comes out in July 2013! Ahhhh so long from now! Never fear though, Armentrout has loads of other books coming out that will keep our mind occupied. I recommend this for any Young Adult readers. It has romance, action, adventure, and comedy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Each book in this series just gets better!! December 12, 2012
Format:Paperback
How do I even begin to tell you how much I loved this book?! I was pretty sure I was going to love this because I totally loved the first two, but I had no idea this would be as amazingly awesome as it was!! Jennifer L. Armentrout sure has a way of blowing my expectations away with each new book of hers I read. Each book in this series has gotten better for me and I don't know how she can top this one, but I know she will. Now that I have gotten my fan girl stuff out of the way, I will continue. I have become very invested in the story and after the way Onyx ended I was super excited to read this one. The stakes are higher, the romance is hotter, and the tension is incredible!! In other words, this book rocked!! Being that this is the third book in the series, it's a bit harder to review, but I will do my best.

Katy really steps it up in this one. I admire how tough she is and what she is willing to do. She has been through a lot, too much really, but she holds it together really well. She has a lot of guilt too and that is a lot of the reason why she feels like she needs to do certain things that are insanely dangerous. She has a few moments where she really breaks down, but I think she has become such a strong person. She lets her anger get the best of her sometimes, but she is still the same fun and snarky girl underneath the harder shell she now wears.

I thought I couldn't love Daemon any more than I already did and boy was I wrong. Yes, he still has an ego, and he still has his moments of jerkiness, but the jerk stuff comes out with his protective side. Mostly we see a super sweet and caring Daemon, and yes, even very romantic! I was swooning all over the place while reading Opal. He was out to prove he really cared about Katy in Onyx, and now that he has her, he wants to keep showing her just how much she means to him. He will do anything for her. He will go through great lengths to make her happy and keep her safe. You can feel how much he cares about her.

The other characters were just as great as always too. Blake was still a character I didn't want to trust just like in Onyx, but I still never really knew whether I could or not. He just gives me a bad creepy vibe, and the dude does do some pretty creepy stuff. Dawson is still very broken. With all that he's been through, I was surprised that he was able to start to be himself a little more. I loved seeing him slowly open back up to his siblings and Katy. Dee was in a rough place in this book. She is still very hurt and is having a hard time letting Katy back in. She spends most of her time with Ash and Adam grieving.

The romance was AMAZING!! All of the chemistry is still there and it's even better. There is still the tension too since there are other more important and scary things going on, but they are just sizzling when they are together. We get all of the amazing hotness and build up that we all love!! I could go on and on about how much I love Daemon and Katy together and how much I loved every scene where they kissed or touched, but it's so much more than that too. I loved how they just were together. Just talking or trying to go on dates. Snuggling together and just sleeping. The romantic and sweet things Daemon would say to her or do for her. It was all just perfect even with nothing perfect about the whole situation they are in. They are like the bright light in the dark.

This book gets intense. They are trying to find a way to get to Beth. They are waiting to see what will happen with Will, not knowing when or if he will come back. They can't trust anyone and they feel like they are walking into a trap no matter what they do. They face numerous dangers and I was holding my breath hoping and wishing that things would all work out. With emotions high, and tension at ridiculous levels, trying to work together towards a common goal isn't very easy, but they know that it's their only option. I was so tense reading this book. I felt the urgency, I felt all the emotions. I am so invested in the characters and the story that when they are going through something, I feel like I am going through it with them. Oh and the ending?! Yeah, I think that JLA tore my heart out! I'm pretty sure she is just going to hold it hostage for a while, but I am hoping that she will give it back. After reading the last pages of this book I wanted to throw things and stomp around like a child having a tantrum. I can't wait for Origin! I need that book like I need to breathe.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ugh! So tired of authors just cutting off stories! December 30, 2012
By Tammy
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was a great story that I would have likely given a high review on... but I won't be back for the next book. I am seriously fed up with authors just cutting off storylines. A book should have a clear beginning, middle, and end. A book in a series is no different. You end with the possibility of more to come (like... the good guys won and the bad guy is dead... or is he really????), but you don't just build up to and stop in the middle of the climactic scene. Give me a complete story or forget about it. If I have to wait months, and sometimes years, to see how the scene I was in the middle of ends, then I am just as fine forgetting about the story and moving on. We wait too long in between books for them to be cut off mid-climax. Because of this, I simply cannot give this a good review... especially after she even says how much it sucks for readers when books end like this right in her own story. They keep doing it to us because we keep buying it. So I'm am done buying books from authors who cannot stand up to editors and refuse to do this. I am officially a non-fan and I won't be........ Oh hey, looks like a good place to stop. The End
