Biography

Anna Mae Bullock was born in Tennessee, but moved to St. Louis as a teenager. There she met rock and roll performer Ike Turner and persuaded him to let her join his backing vocalists. Eventually Anna impressed Ike so much that he gave her equal-billing, and the new name "Tina". They became the Ike and Tina Turner Revue, and married in 1962. Through the 60s they forged a reputation as a thrilling… Read more in Amazon's Tina Turner Store

5.0 out of 5 stars The queen of Rock is back., February 8, 2005
This review is from: Open Arms 2 (Audio CD)
Tina is now 65 years old and is back to offer "ALL THE BEST", the ultimate greatest hits collection of her successful career of almost 50 years.
"OPEN ARMS" is the first single of three new songs that she added to her recopilatory. The song is very good and still shows Tina's strengh while she delivers the lyrics. This song did good in Europe where made it to the Top 10 in countries like England or Germany. In the US is also becoming a hit. Three weeks after its release is on #17 of the Adult Comtemporary Billboard's chart, and it's still climbing.
This cd single includes "OPEN ARMS", the short version of Tina's 2003 release for Disney's "BROTHER BEAR" written by Phil Collins. "GREAT SPIRITS", "COSE DELLA LA VITA" next to Eros Ramazzotti and finally a short interview where Tina tells how she met Eros and how they did the song. I just wonder why she didn't make a video for "OPEN ARMS". Anyway, if you're fan of Tina's you should have this one but if you're looking for something from her I'd recommend "ALL THE BEST".

4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite all the best, February 28, 2005
By
This review is from: Open Arms 2 (Audio CD)
I'm enough of a Tina fan that I'll buy anything she puts out, but I confess to some slight disappointment with this anthology. As professional reviewers have pointed out, the track list omits all of the Ike and Tina era songs except 'River Deep' and 'Nutbush'. I would have expected at least 'Fool in Love' to be included. Likewise, I would have expected her third greatest hits package in fifteen years to have more live tracks -Tina is truly at her best in concert. I suppose the selected list will allow American listeners to catch up with what they missed after they largely turned away from Tina at the end of the Eighties.

Having said all that, there's lots to like. For me, the highlight of this album is the freshly recorded 'Something Special'. It's a new sound for Tina and the vocals are gorgeous. Let's hope there's going to be more of the like!

4.0 out of 5 stars Get "All The Best" Instead!, May 4, 2005
This review is from: Open Arms 2 (Audio CD)
Get Tina's "All The Best" instead! It is my very first Tina Turner CD audio! Tina's latest 2-disc set CD is simply fantastic! I purchased this album to include it in my collection of music from the 1980's (the best and most creative musical period of the late 20th century, IMHO), and therefore, only expected Tina to wow me with her 80's music. In fact, I first listened to her music in the early/mid 1980's when radio stations played her hits "We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)," "Private Dancer," and "What's Love Got To Do With It." In those days, I also enjoyed "It's Only Love," which, incidently, I had thought was from a Bryan Adams album. Well, since the 80's I sort of lost track (no pun intended) of Tina's music.

Although I'm still in the process of listening to all of her 33 audio works of art in this collection, I am happy to say that I'm a "renewed" casual fan of Tina Turner! Her music from the 1990's and today are enticing. I enjoy the combination of bold lyrics, diversity of musical styles, and upbeat tempo. She sings some of the sexiest songs that I have ever heard in pop/R&B music. You need to seriously consider buying this set - it is worth every penny (every 64 cents per track!) To my delight, this collection also includes some of her latest singles. The sound quality is superb!

If Tina ever reads reviews at Amazon, I want to say to her: Your are still the best! Thanks for including so much of your wonderful music in this collection!
