Wonderful study Bible. . ., January 15, 2009
I have always loved the Open Bible and was so excited when I found this large print version NKJV. If you are looking for a real study bible without a lot of editorial personal commentary, this bible is for you. Each book has an introduction that discusses the authorship, time frame, key verses, and brief overview. It is followed by a thorough topical outline (chapter/verse). These two features alone are worth the price of the bible. There are also numerous references throughout the chapters and key word study definitions.
Between the 2 testaments is a visual survey of the bible which has charts and illustrations about the time lines of the Old and New Testaments, the life of Christ, history of Israel, etc., a wonderful resource. There are color maps in the back and a small concordance. There is also a guide for Christian workers, a guide for new converts, archaeological updates, and a cyclopedic index that covers almost every subject you can think of (from names like Aaron to Zuzim-- and characteristics like ability to zeal). For example, if you look up faith, it has the definition, uses of the word and the corresponding scriptures that refer to each context. Again, it is worth the price of the bible alone.
Incidentally, this index is why this only gets 4 instead of 5 stars. This is a large print bible, but the index is in mice-print. I don't know why the publishers decided to enlarge the print of everything except this; maybe this would have made the bible too large and heavy, but it's still disappointing to have to reach for a pair of reading glasses to see it. The cover is heavy duty and sturdy enough to last many years. The print is clear and very readable (Times Roman font), but it could have been a little larger.
Of all the study bibles on the market, this one works whether you are a new Christian, a seasoned convert, or a minister. It is a bible that you can use without having to buy a lot of other reference books. The NKJV keeps the language of the original KJV without all the "thees" and "thous" and the study guides are extremely helpful. Great Bible!

Great Bible, May 13, 2008
I ordered this bible for myself last year, and I love it. My husband started using it and since love it so much, I asked him if he wanted his own. Hence, I brought another one. We love the large print since our eyes are getting dim. It is very difficult to find such an outstanding study bible in a large print. This is my favorite study bible because it does not weigh you down with the commentary. It helps you to learn God's word on your own with the translations and reference scriptures right in the passage.
