5.0 out of 5 stars Great Rockin Blues Music
Its about time this album was released--It has got to be one of the best of 1969--now where are the 1st and 3rd albums for Blues Image? They are equally as good-I have all three on LP. This album--GREAT GREAT Blues Rock--Mike Pinera (Iron Butterfly) Joe Lala (Steve Stills) and company provide some excellent jams here--Ride Captain Ride was a top ten single--the only...

3.0 out of 5 stars No classic, but worth hearing
Blues Image was a short-lived band from Florida that unsuccessfully attempted to relocate in LA later than the peak time to do so (which was 1965-1967). The group only produced one hit song, "Ride Captain Ride," because the label insisted on a marketable single. It's great, and it's on this album. However, the rest of the album shows the group imploded for a reason:...

Its about time this album was released--It has got to be one of the best of 1969--now where are the 1st and 3rd albums for Blues Image? They are equally as good-I have all three on LP. This album--GREAT GREAT Blues Rock--Mike Pinera (Iron Butterfly) Joe Lala (Steve Stills) and company provide some excellent jams here--Ride Captain Ride was a top ten single--the only problem the guitar solo at the end was cut off early-I saw Pinera do this song a couple yrs ago at a county fair and he went on for about 5 minutes at the end--What a solo!!!! Clean Love is an excellent slow Blues song with a great solo--the sound is excellent on all songs-very clear--Partridge Farm is great-it leads into a great guitar solo. I saw these guys at Winterland 1969--Fantastic Show!!! Pick this CD up and get the 1st & 3rd albums when they arrive on CD-hopefully--for now search the bins for the LPs-you will not be disappointed. ROCK ON-Blues Image---Also check out Mike Pinera's 2 solo albums released on LP in the seventies--called Thee Image--great guitar work!!!!!!!!

There is no single album that I missed more than this one for want of not having a CD available. Now the CD is here and we have the Blue's Image back. This is some brilliant work. The popular "Ride Captain Ride" is a wonderful song but it's the other works that make this CD kick. In particular, Fugue U and Parchman Farm are just AWESOME. I just can't tell you how much I have missed these two songs over the last 20 years. And there are lots of other gems like "Pay My Dues", "Take Me", "La Bamba", and "Clean Love". Great music. KILLER guitar work. They were just an incredibly creative bunch of musicians.

My vinyl copy is precious to me though I no longer have a turntable to play it on. The new CD is getting converted to MP3s for my Jukebox and it will be blasting out of the speakers on my Harley very shortly. Life is good again!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The first Cuban blues rock band from Tampa Florida., February 12, 2005

When I saw this album available on CD, I had to buy it. They were one of my favorite bands from the late sixties. Let me tell you these guys were real good by combining blues with the Cuban beat, especially Joe LaLa and Mike Pinera who are from Cuban background. The other musicians are great too! I just hope the other two albums (Red, White & Blue and Blues Image) will be available on CD soon so I can complete my collection. If you like early Latin rock check this CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blues Image - 'Open' (Sundazed), October 18, 2005
This review is from: Open (Audio CD)
Originally released in 1970 as 'Open' was the band's second of reportedly three lp's they'd put out. Most of you probably won't remember much of this reissue outside of their huge hit they had with "Ride Captain Ride", which is always nice to hear. I'm hearing this entire lp for the very first time. 'Open' is basically good bluesy hard rock, very 1970-ish. Other notable tracks include "Love Is The Answer", "Clean Love", the fusion like "La Bamba" and "Pay My Dues". Line-up: Mike Pinera - guitar & vocals, Malcolm Jones - bass, Skip Konte - keyboards, Joe Lala - drums and Manuel Bertematti - percussion. Anyone know what Mike Pinera is up to these days? Last I saw him, he was guitarist for Alice Cooper on his summer 'Clones' tour, but that's been awhile now. Might appeal to fans of Three Dog Night, Sugarloaf, Guess Who and Iron Butterfly.

A friend bought this from a record club when it was first released. He told me I HAD to come over and hear this.I was expecting the usual thing from a new band with the "big hit".Maybe 3 good songs and a bunch of filler.ButI was blown away by this.Good songs done by really good musicians.Mike Pinera plays some tasty blues and latin flavored boogie licks. Not a wasted note on this. The cd remaster is very well done, sound quality is excellent. This was a killer band that sadly only cut one more record.Percussionist Joe Lala from the new liner notes:"Every once in a while I'll put that bad boy on,just to reminisce.I'm telling you,That band was unstoppable."

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this album!, December 30, 2005

I got this LP back in the early 70's. I saw it cheap in a cut-out bin and got it since I liked "Ride Captain Ride" a lot. It turns out that "Ride Captain Ride" isn't really very representative of the album; the album is mostly good bluesy rock, and "Ride Captain Ride" actually doesn't fit that well with the rest of it. It turned out to be one of my all-time favorite albums -- not for "Ride Captain Ride", but for the other stuff. I'm really glad it's finally out on CD!

The group only produced one hit song, "Ride Captain Ride," because the label insisted on a marketable single. It's great, and it's on this album. However, the rest of the album shows the group imploded for a reason: the members had no clear direction, and so went in several to little effect. Even so, the album is an interesting period piece for those who care. And a CD copy of "Ride Captain Ride" improves any pop music collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mike Pinera, the voice behind Iron Butterfly (second period) and Ramatam, September 4, 2005

I did not know that Mike Pinera was in this particular group, or at least I forgot.
This second album is extremly good, reminding me of the Iron Butterfly's albums (i.e. Metamorphosis) in which the same guitarist/singer was playing, a little later in the seventies.
Excellent stuff. Great voice.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Blues Image", January 24, 2005

I was snooping through Amazon and ran across the picture for this album and just had to write.
This band rates in my "top-ten all-time favorite bands" list, not for this album, which I've never been privleged to hear, but for their first album, which I've never been able to get enough of since I bought it back in 1977. I can't imagine this album being anything less than their first one was, and it was fantastic! Of course I know "Ride Captain Ride" as well as its B-side "Pay My Dues." I LOVE "Pay My Dues," and if you're a guitarist, it's ALOT of fun to play!!!
But, "Take Me to the Sunrise," "Leaving My Troubles Behind," "Do You Have Something to Say," and "Reality Does Not Inspire" are a heck of alot of fun to play too, and are dang great songs (as is that entire first album). We need their first album!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars this is agreat album/cd, June 11, 2010
This review is from: Open (Audio CD)
This is a great overlooked album by the great band Blues Image..but if you are looking for the cut off guitar solo at the end of Ride captian Ride..Here's where to find it go to music downloads and look for the remastered version of the single song from 2006. It is a different version and contains the full solo.. When I first heard it I could tell right away it was a different mix and I felt I got burned as I wanted to download the original version but I was very happy when I found the
"missing" solo...For sure worth the .99 cent download..I believe that this was remastered for use in the Anchorman film but I could be wrong..enjoy the album but download the remastered single.
