A delight for children of all ages, May 12, 1999
This review is from: Open for Business (Audio CD)
This children's album has good songs and tells the story of the birth of "The Friendship Company." This is very different from Sandi's 1989 "Friendship Company" album which was all songs. Two tracks on this CD are Sandi solo songs ("Never Too Long, Never Too Far Away", "The Best of Friends") while three songs are by Sandi with story characters ("Manners Matter", "Underneath Your Wrapping", and "Cooperation Hop"). The remaining tracks are spoken dialogue and character solo songs. CD selection can easily turn it into a shorter Sandi album. This award-winning 1991 recording celebrates friendship from beginning to end with cheerful wholesome (but not exclusive or creepy) values. This will likely be the most rare of Sandi Patty album CD's in the near future - get it while you can.

A forgotten masterpiece, October 15, 2008
This review is from: Open for Business (Audio CD)
First of all, this is Darrell Olling's 17-year old son writing here. I just wanted to get that out of the way.
I remember listening to this CD as a little kid, and I only recently rediscovered it in our collection. Anyone born between 1985 and 1991 would be most likely to know of this CD, especially if they grew up in a Christian household. All of the songs on it are really great, and the story flows well too. Each music track is separated by a track of dialog only, although this has little musical themes playing in the background.
I won't go into detail about the plot, nor will I attempt to explain all of the little details in the dialog that only teenagers and adults would catch, but I would like to point out some other little-known facts about this album.
It was produced by Ron Krueger and Greg Nelson, but you probably don't know them. But get this - the five cartoon animal characters in this story (designed by Matthew Bates, Ron Krueger, and Patrick Pollei) have fairly familliar voice actors backing their lines. (You can see the five characters on the album art.) The Narrator, of course, is Sandi Patti (or Patty) herself. Fergetti the Elephant and Infield the St. Bernard are both voiced by Bill Farmer, whom you may know as the voice of Disney's Goofy. Beemer the green creature is voiced by Jess Harnell, who also does the voice of Wakko on Steven Spielberg's "Animaniacs". Noodle the Lamb is voiced by Russi Taylor, who also does Minnie Mouse (Disney) and Berdie from McDonald's "McDonaldland" advertisements. Then there's Zig the Rabbit... She's voiced by Jennifer Darling, who is a great singer (see "A Little Bit O' Love"). However, Jennifer has not done much else that's notable, if you look her up on Wikipedia.
As you already know, this album was created and recorded in 1991, which was 17 years ago. (I turn 18 Nov. 30th.) I think it would be really awesome (but totally unlikely) if Everland Entertainment made an animated version of this album. They could use the same audio, but just create animation for it. I don't know how they would release it, though.
Anyway, I really recommend this CD. Listen to some of the samples Amazon provides, and remember that I think that the musical compositions on this album are on par with music made today. This is Jordan, signing off.
