Book Description

March 29, 2005
THEY'VE GOT UNFINISHED BUSINESS WITH THE SPIRIT WORLD....

Attorney Katerina Piretti and her husband, Stephen Carmichael, own South Baltimore's trendy Angel Café. Having battled with the dark side in the past, they want nothing more now than to lead ordinary lives by simply raising their two daughters and pursuing their lucrative careers. Unfortunately, ordinary doesn't seem to be an option.

When their thirteen-year-old daughter, Julia, begins to experience frightfully realistic dreams and visions, Kat and Stephen quickly realize that protecting their family will require a return to the spiritual battleground they long thought they had left behind. Is Julia the prophesied child of light, or simply an open channel allowing spirits unfiltered access to the physical world? Kat and Stephen race against time to discover the truth, for Julia has become a target for an ancient evil they have no desire to meet again...and modern and medieval eras are about to collide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Engrossing, April 6, 2005
This review is from: The Open Channel (Mass Market Paperback)
I read this in two nights flat, testament to how engrossed I was in The Open Channel.

Shifting a good chunk of the action away from Baltimore to medieval Lincolnshire is a bold move and has paid off well. Jill Morrow is comfortable with the location and the convent and forest scenes are convincing. I felt I'd been taken somewhere very new and fresh.

The Angel Café characters have aged and developed well and I felt this was one of the strongest features of the book. I'm really hoping a third novel will give us another glimpse of their struggle against the dark side of the psychic.

5.0 out of 5 stars She does it again!, April 12, 2005
This review is from: The Open Channel (Mass Market Paperback)
Full disclosure: Jill is a friend from a writing group to which I belong.

Having said that, I'd give THE OPEN CHANNEL five stars anyway, simply because it forced even this diehard atheist to ponder light and dark, good and evil.

The book's action shifts back and forth between contemporary Baltimore and medieval England. Eventually these disparate times and places merge for the climatic event: a "real life" battle between good and evil. But the book is more than swords clashing and bodies falling: she reminds the reader (even this diehard atheist!) *why* the battle matters, and what it is that makes ordinary life worthwhile. Wonderful stuff!
