Customer Reviews

Good acting and story.
Dione
The movie was ok not bad or horrible just the plot was a little off It totallt made sense in the end but it was kind of all over place and out of order at times.
Rosetta
It's nice when a movie manages to bring something sort of fresh to a genre.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I saw the trailer, and was disappointed that this movie didn't release in theaters in my area, but was well worth watching online regardless. At first glace, may seem like a rollercoaster of mismatched characters, seeking explanation to who they are and where they are, and why, but intrigue takes over as they begin to recollect their pasts, and madness takes over. They find they are not alone, and are not who they think they are, nor are their circumstances as seemingly simple. There is a more sinister plan at work, but one which they do not quickly figure out until it becomes all too clear that it is not mere madness taking over, but madness that is coming to get them and they must work together, with frenzied memories of what brought them together, all too slowly coming back to them, but will they remember in time to stave off the impending mystery of what is to happen on the 18th? Very enjoyable and suspenseful

It was a smart twist on what would have otherwise been a tired premise. My gf made me watch it because Joseph Morgan is in it. He and Sharlto Copley did a good job pulling me into the story though and the movie was pleasingly dark for a horror fan like myself. 4 stars because it did get a little slow at times and it wasn't the most gratuitous with the violence, but it WAS just f&%$ed up enough for me to like it.

DON'T WATCH THE TRAILER!!! We watched it afterwards and it really gives a lot away.

I really liked this film. I've adored Sharlto since District 9 so I rented as soon as it was available. There are some twists and it had a nice ending that tied everything up like the previous review said. Actually liked this more than World War Z. It didn't rely on effects but it was more gritty and down to earth horror which focused on location (the pit, shacks hidden in the woods, secret labs in the basement) which helped the story because being lost in the woods is bad enough, but to have no memory and no one knows if they trust each other. Not to mention the 'creatures/people' living in the woods! It give it a realistic approach to terror. I'm actually sick of gory movies bring back more films with a story and suspense like in the days of John Carpenter's Halloween and Jaws.

Really good acting, intelligently written script, believable dialog/characters & pacing that kept my attention & although I guessed the truth behind the mystery about halfway thru, Open Grave definitely kept my interest throughout.

As an avid zombie/sci-fi/horror film enthusiast I'm...let's say, less squeamish than most folks & I rarely shy-away from frightening images or gore...but neither do those things alone make me like/want to buy a movie. As a film, Open Grave was neither horrific nor particularly gory, but I realized that by about 2/3 of the way thru I was viewing many scenes(& later most) almost peripherally, thru half-lidded eyes. I'd grown so emotionally invested in the characters that I actually shied-away from seeing them hurt/killed....As the film's climax approached I became increasingly filled with dread until the conclusion...(& just as am aside-this is an aspect of the horror/thriller genre with the huge potential for failure by filmmakers. Even the most promising of indie flicks often fail at the script's resolution, leaving viewers let-down.) All I will say is that I found the conclusion to be oddly satisfying.

I'm glad that I took a risk and purchased the film cuz ima rewatch it right now 😎

John awakes in a pit with dead people. He was helped out by a mute oriental woman who doesn't understand English. He goes to a house. There are people inside. Everyone in the group has amnesia and a mark on their arm. The house has plenty of food and ammo. Driver licenses let the people know their names, but they remember nothing else.

The film doesn't do a great job of dropping clues, but by 55 minutes into the film, you get a better idea what is happening, but it isn't until the end all is revealed.

I liked the opening scene. It was slow and effective. I also liked the ending, how it tied things together. The problem I had was the characters. They were not entertaining or memorable. They effectively played the scared hollow headed people they were scripted to be, and that left me getting bored as they strolled through the woods.

Makes an okay rental.

Parental Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity.

Almost frustrating that you can't figure this out. It holds your interest throughout and has a great twist ending. Definitely recommend a watch.
