Losing a loved one can be an intensely isolating experience. At times you may feel as if you are the only person who has ever known such anguish. Helping you find hope again is our mission in Open to Hope: Inspirational Stories of Healing After Loss. Whether your loved one died last week or last decade, we know you can benefit from the wisdom of those who have negotiated the long days and nights of the grief journey. That s why we created the Open to Hope Foundation, a content-rich, heart-based online forum to help people cope with their pain, heal their grief, and begin investing in their futures. Compiled in this book are entries written by more than one hundred contributors to the foundation s website. By reading about their experiences, may you find similar paths to healing. It is our heartfelt hope that as you read, you will think, If they can make it, so can I. We too have grieved deeply and know what it s like to experience dark days with no light to lead us. Whenever you run out of hope and can t find the light to guide you, we invite you to lean on our hope until you find your own.

Editorial Reviews

Review

This book is about more than finding hope. Loss is inevitable, but what we do with it is a choice we must each make. If you want to recover read on. --Bernie Siegel, MD, author of Buddy's Candle, 365 Prescriptions for the Soul and Faith, Hope, and Healing Within the pages of this book there are more than one hundred stories of loss, faith, and courage written by those who have been there. They remind us that despite devastating losses, it is possible to find hope again. --Senator Gordon H. Smith, President of the National Association of Broadcasters and author of Remembering Garrett: One Family's Battle with a Child's Depression. One hundred eloquent authors remind us of the personal pathways we each take as we journey with loss. Readers will find validation whatever loss they are experiencing and however they are coping with their grief. --Kenneth J. Doka, PhD, Professor, The College of New Rochelle, and Senior Consultant, The Hospice Foundation of America

There is an extraordinary abundance of human insight from many points of view in this remarkable compilation. Well edited, and helpful on fundamental levels by two very capable and knowledgeable professionals. I will continue to gift the book to people experiencing tragedy and loss.

I have lost my daughter to an unexpected tragedy three months ago. I have purchased many books right away to help me deal with this, as books have always been a guide for me in life. Most of the books fell very short to help me find that needed hope, and sometimes after reading one I felt worse.
I received this book as a gift and will always hold the person who gave this to me close to my heart. THIS is the book I have needed to help me mend. The short writings from each individual in this book are incredibly special and are actual tools to help you deal with whatever loss you are experiencing.
I read half of the book, and want to savor the rest because I know more great thoughts and tools are coming my way!
This will be my 'grieving bible' and will be in my reach when I am having tough moments. Sometimes friends do not know what to say, but this book does the job for all of them. It will help me on the coldest nights and make me think of new ways I can inspire others.
I will purchase this book for friends and family who need that inspirational help given to me. I will never let go of my copy because it will remain with me on days where my inspiration is on a sad cloud far in the distance!
