4.0 out of 5 stars Thoughtful, Insightful, Creative, Collaborative Soundtrack., December 15, 2007

This review is from: Open Water (Audio CD)
Wonderful, though almost too-brief, selection of a-cappella and band recordings spanning 30 years of traditional, folk and contemporary music from the West Indies included along with the film score. If you enjoyed the music found in the motion picture, you will not be disappointed. This is not simply the score by Graeme Revell if that was your concern. If you have a taste for New Orleans, as well you will not be let down.

You will hear the beautiful a-cappella sounds of The Pupils of The Adi Cokabau; the gospel of the Swain Family; the guitar Folk of Joseph Spence; something to dance to, something to sing-along to, and many emotions to ponder.

The motion picture itself was filmed quite well in my opinion, one that few appear to share. One can not dispute however, that the music heard throughout is weaved well within the images on screen and provide several memorable highlights. This leaves us with a thoughtful, insightful, and creative, collaborative soundtrack worthy of repeated listening.

I don't leave many reviews but this soundtrack deserves a better review than the one it's got. Ignoring the score, every song on this album is singular and incredibly compelling. It's really turned me on to Calypso and for that I'll be forever grateful.

Great boat music...though if you see the movie you probably won't want to get on a boat anytime soon.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nothing exists within this score..., April 10, 2005

This review is from: Open Water (Audio CD)
All right, I'm not gonna review the movie, but since no one else has said anything about this title I guess I will.

DONT BUY IT. For the most part why the hell would you buy it unless you like Graeme Revell? Right because you actually want it for the songs? If you're expecting anything great from Revell then you are wrong. There is NOTHING and I mean nothing in this score...well maybe a CD with noise on it. None of it even comes close to entertaining. Now that being said, I don't mean that it did not WORK for the film. It worked fine. And seeing as they probably didn't have a budget, he most likely just skidoo-ed them some noise for it. But if (as every reviewer says) you are looking for entertainment through this music, DONT get it. Unless it's 99 cents, has been signed by Revell, has been blessed by the Vatican, is from some estranged country and says made in said country, you are the most complete complete-ist on the planet...yeah, so uh don't buy it, nothing exists as music on this boring CD.

And yes for all you that only care about the SONGS (which you could just buy from the Artists albums) they resemble the country the film took place in. The End.
