Editorial Reviews

Thank you, Lisa Marie Mercer, for this fresh and relevant look into skiing fitness. Open your Heart with Winter Fitness is comprehensive, fun and informative for every level skier - from the entry level beginner to the instructor. --Deb Armstrong, Olympic Gold Medalist, Giant Slalom, Sarajevo 1984, PSIA Alpine Team Member

Like a narrow rut line through a steep mogulfield, Lisa's book draws you in and takes you for an exhilarating ride through the bright, sparkling landscape of her mind and knowledge. On the way, you will gain wisdom about skiing amidst the achingly-beautiful high places of the world, and about the most important piece of equipment you will ever need while you're up there: your own body. --Martin Bell, Four-time Oympic Ski Racer

Open Your Heart with Winter Fitness bridges the gap between the scientific jargon of exercise physiology and the functional fitness of the outdoor enthusiast! The practical application provided will assist one in improving his or her overall fitness performance on and off the slopes. --CarolAnn, MS, Education Director, FiTour

More About the Author

I began my fitness career in New York City in the 1970s, and learned to ski in my mid 40s. Five years later, my husband and I packed out van with our two cats, our greyhound and fitness equipment. We moved to Summit County Colorado, and opened Mountain Sport Pilates and Fitness in Frisco. My dream was to have a cutting edge sport fitness training studio, and my husband helped me to fulfil that dream.

In the Winter, I work at Copper Mountain, and my husband teaches skiing at Breckenridge. We both occasionally perform at the Backstage Theatre in Breckenridge.

I have written articles for the Professional Skier, Aspen Magazine, HerSports and other print and online publications. I am the skiing expert for, and the ski-fitness expert at

In May of 2006, Meg Bertini at Dreamtime Publishing helped me fulfil another dream: To write a book about snowsport fitness.

Format: Perfect Paperback
Lisa Marie Mercer is a serious student of fitness. She also has a deep love for winter sports. So much so that she moved from her native northeast United States to the high alpine paradise of Summit County Colorado. In this book, she shares not only her knowledge of how to develop physically for winter sports, but also her own life and its challenges.

As a result, you find more than just knowledge. You find a real person who is sharing it.

Whether you are seeking introductory information about fitness for life activities or in-depth understanding of both what to do and why to do it, this book will benefit you. Covering a wide variety of approaches, Lisa helps us see why our core is so important, and shows us a multitude of ways to improve its fitness. She covers balance and power. And in the process, shows us the way to live life more fully.

Format: Perfect Paperback Verified Purchase
Lisa Marie Mercer's book is the first winter sports book that I have read that really holistically approached the needs of skiers and snowboarders. She shares her personal experiences and comprehensively uses her knowledge to help winter sports athletes.
