Book Description

November 23, 2003
"Open Your Mind, Open Your Heart", by new author, W. Marie Giles, gets you thinking about your own personal path toward a more positive lifestyle.

The book is packed with simple, yet thought-provoking wisdom in the form of short statements, upon which she briefly expounds, as well as her own heartfelt poetry.

The author's words of wisdom have something for everyone. Through them, she reveals her genuine concern for others and the state of the world. She implores the reader to think more about how they treat others and to make choices that move them forward, on a positive path, by assessing their own actions and behavior.

The poetry in this book is truly original. You are sure to be moved by the author's words on love, compassion, kindness, and even death and dying, as they relate to an open mind and heart.

One key characteristic of the book is that you don't have to read it from beginning to end -- though you may be inclined to do just that. You can open the book to any page and find something appropriate and interesting to digest. Use it as a part of your daily devotional or simply as a "pick me up" when you need a boost in attitude. However you approach it, this book would be an important addition to your quest toward self-discovery and a more positive lifestyle.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

This book is from my heart.  As my first endeavor into the area of "authorship", I was inspired to share the importance of and open mind which enables an open heart.  All the poetry is inspired by events, relationships, encounters, and other life experiences.

Marie has been on a journey of self-discovery and self-improvement nearly all her life. She has come to realize that the journey does not end, for it is in the journey that you continue to improve your outlook and reach a higher level of fulfillment.

Her chosen profession is in the field of Information Technology where she currently works as a senior manager in government service.

She began creating bookmarks shortly before her mother passed away in 2001, experimenting with different designs. After she was informed of her mother's death, Marie wanted to create something for the family to remember her by. She decided on a bookmark bearing a cameo-shaped picture of her mother with a poem that said just what she believes her mother would have. She created nearly 50 of these bookmarks, using inkjet transparencies and card stock. She assembled them with a gold ribbon and passed them out to family and friends.

Marie has always enjoyed writing and is continually trying to improve her effectiveness through reading, observing, listening, speaking, and loving life.

I am a 45 year old woman who has been on a quest for positive self-motivation fot he last twenty years. I have read numerous books and clippings, but was always left wondering. This book upon reading it brought a satification to my intellectual nature. Everyday I experience tough decisions, emotional battles and spiritual quests and this book along with the Bible has helped me stay focus on spirit and man, on right and wrong, and on good and bad. I thank the writer for making my way easier through the sharing of such powerful insights and compassion.

5.0 out of 5 stars A do-it-yourself help manual for a more positive life...., January 13, 2004
By
Darlean Smith (Pensacola FL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Open Your Mind, Open Your Heart (Paperback)
This book expresses, in simple words, rich lessons that create a happier and more responsible life. The author, with warm and sincere openness, does a remarkable job of implicitly encouraging the reader to examine his own personal relationships with self, family, friends, community...world - to create a more positive outcome. It teaches that when we change others will change. After reading the book, the reader is left with a feeling of importance and well-being - that he, too, has the power to make a difference not only in his life, but in the lives of others. It will entice the reader to unlock what he already has inside - love, peace, joy, kindness... Mrs. Giles' personable expressions and desire to touch others in a positive way draws the reader vicariously into a one-on-one dialog.

She gives you many things to think about - the impact of your behavior on others, loving and respecting others as equal to yourself, being open and honest with self and others, being sensitive and aware of others' needs, seeking positive solutions to relationships, and considering your own legacy.

The reader does not have to read the entire book at once to receive the full impact of the lessons. Each lesson is stand-a-lone, yet inter-connected to make for a more positive and fulfilled life.
