2.0 out of 5 stars Outdated When I Ordered

5.0 out of 5 stars SOMETHING SO INEXPENSIVE IS SO GOOD, November 12, 2006
This review is from: OpenOffice.org 2.4 - Open Office Suite/Microsoft Office & StarOffice Alternative for Windows (CD-ROM)
I just started using openoffice 2.04 version. What can I say,It's great word processor. In my personal opinion it is just as good as Microsoft Office 2006.I tried so many different word processor, and I never was able to find one that was a good alternative to ms word until I used this version of openoffice. It is a much improved version than openoffice version 1.0 .In this version it can open ms word documents and still hold the same format.Another great thing it can do is let's say you copy and paste a webpage to a new openoffice word doc.It will be able to save the page layout format in the same way microsoft office can.In the openoffice version 1.0 it was not capable of these functions. The openoffice suite includeds (Writer)-complete word processor or desktop publisher: (Calc)- a spreadsheet program:(Impress)a program for creating effective multimedia presentations:(base)Create and modify tables, forms, queries, and reports:(DRAW)-great for graphics and diagrams:(MATH)- for mathematical equations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very pleased!, April 10, 2007
This review is from: OpenOffice.org 2.4 - Open Office Suite/Microsoft Office & StarOffice Alternative for Windows (CD-ROM)
I am used to using Word Perfect or Microsoft Word at work, but now that I am a stay at home Mom, I just don't want to pay hundreds of dollars for such a program. But I want a program that does everything Word can do. Well I found it! Open Office!

I got the Word Home and Student version trial with my new computer, but it wasn't as intuitive and easy as Open Office. Plus, my 30 day free trial lasted only a couple of days because I clicked some wrong button. Microsoft!

I do secretarial work for my church and I was able to put a copy on the church computer and home computer free. But I like it so much, I'm going to make a donations. Or I'll buy this cd...

This expansive easy to use product handles all my office type needs. I don't run a business at home but it's great for letters with photo enclosures, addressing envelopes and it's there for other needs if I need it. I'm not qualified to comment on all the capabilities but I'll recommend it to other casual computer users who do not want to invest in written use software.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Office Software, April 6, 2008

This review is from: OpenOffice.org 2.4 - Open Office Suite/Microsoft Office & StarOffice Alternative for Windows (CD-ROM)
I have owned the Open Office Software package for over a year now and it is one of my all-time best buys. I was used to the Microsoft Office product and the Open Office package made transition easy. You can even use Microsoft .doc files and send them to others with Open Office. The word processing software is better than Word, but is very similar in functionality. This has to be the best value on the Net for office software, and it is complete and fully integrated. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beats all competitors, August 26, 2008
This review is from: OpenOffice.org 2.4 - Open Office Suite/Microsoft Office & StarOffice Alternative for Windows (CD-ROM)
Open Office is, quite simply, the best office suite of applications on the market - bar none. It is not just free, it is superior in use to all competitors. For instance, it can read and convert or save in any of the common formats, including Microsoft formats. So even if you have old documents you want to keep in their current format, or if you share documents with Microsoft users, you will lose nothing. What you gain is a superior application in speed, reliability, and adherence to open standards such as Java and XML. Very highly recommended whether for any operation system, Mac, Microsoft, or Linux.

5.0 out of 5 stars At Last! I Can Say Good Bye To Microsoft!, July 26, 2008
This review is from: OpenOffice.org 2.4 - Open Office Suite/Microsoft Office & StarOffice Alternative for Windows (CD-ROM)
My most recent PC runs on Windows, same as all of its predecessors. But now, it is Windows Vista, an operating system so demanding of its hardware that the price of a computer with even average performance has gone through the roof. I found myself unable to afford both the computer and an Office Suite, until I discovered OpenOffice.

I understand Microsoft has derisively declared that OpenOffice is "only" up to the level of MS Office 97. All I can say is that I recall being happy with MS Office 95, and did not see the subsequent introduction of talking paperclips as being quite the benefit that Microsoft evidently did. While I still miss some of the search features of MS Office, I have found OpenOffice to be everything I need in my office suite and it definitely cannot be beaten for the price!

Even better, this program can run on non-Microsoft operating systems. I can now think seriously about ditching Windows for Linux without fear!

2.0 out of 5 stars Outdated When I Ordered, November 20, 2008
This review is from: OpenOffice.org 2.4 - Open Office Suite/Microsoft Office & StarOffice Alternative for Windows (CD-ROM)
Open Office is available with free download, but since I have dial up connection it kept timing out before download completed, so I decided to order the CDs.
Was delivered in a timely manner and in good condition and cost effective. The only problem was that once installed, I was notified there was an update available. And the update was not a small incremental update - but required a full download - again a time out factor.
Finally found a work around for downloading - so am now using Open Office and it is working well for me.
Maybe I did not do enough searching to find the latest version - maybe there is a newer version out there now.
Some of the problem may have been me selecting the wrong product.

I downloaded Openoffice a week ago, since then have taken off my computer a trial edition of Wordperfect X4 and Microsoft Office 2007. I cant say enough about how good this program is. It opens documents generated from office 2007 with no errors. Its great. I highly recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save your $ and buy something else!, January 18, 2011
This review is from: OpenOffice.org 2.4 - Open Office Suite/Microsoft Office & StarOffice Alternative for Windows (CD-ROM)
Anyone who pays for this program has paid too much. Open Office is totally free software, available for download at it's official site, openoffice.org. There, you can download it as many times as you want, get support from their forums, and not pay a dime.

I use Lotus Symphony, which is also free, and which I have had better luck with. It's based on Open Office, but I have not had the problems with it that I had with Open Office.
