Open Office Not a Beginners Program,
By
This review is from: OpenOffice.org 3.0.x - Open Office Suite/Microsoft Office & StarOffice Alternative for Windows (CD-ROM)
Frankly I got Open Office b/c I didn't want to spend the money for MS Office. Over the years I've used MS Office, MS Works and Corel products but I found it difficult to even get moving on Open Office. The outstanding thing is that as soon as I emailed for support I got a half dozen responses w/workable solutions to getting Works or Office things I'd saved to run in Open Office. A great community of users!! If you're flexible, got the brains and experience I'm certain you could easily use Open Office but it's not for a beginner or even a middle experience type such as me.

Good Alternative,

Open Office 3 is a good alternative to using high priced Microsoft Software. There are some compatibility issues, but they are few and far between. For the most part any document you have that you saved in Microsoft Office will open using Open Office 3. What's more is you can download it for free or if you don't have that kind of internet speed or just want a physical copy buy it here on Amazon. There's even a version with support included. If you are tired of shelling out $100-$400 every time Microsoft decides they want to make a lot more money. Get Open Office. Open Office Works.

1 - I love OpenOffice. I've used MS Office since Windows 3.1 and it seems like every time I turn a corner MS has updated the product and the old product, still in use by my employer(s) and still loaded on my home pc is rendered unable to open new-format docs. OpenOffice is continually updated and I've yet to have a problem opening a file. Now when I am unable to open a document at the office I simply forward it home and VOILA. I I have not used the data base program. Note - I do not work for a small company.
2 - This is free software. You do not need to purchase it. If you have a slow connection have a friend download it and save it to a zip drive!
