One of the best technical books ever written,
By John "john" (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: OpenVMS Alpha Internals: Scheduling and Process Control (HP Technologies) (Paperback)
Ruth is a heroine of the high tech industry. This book is unparelleled in clarity and can be found on most VMS engineers's desk. It offers a vision of how VMS works, but less specifically how an Operating System works and even how a technology book should be written. Folks that have written about Windows NT have sited this book as their inspiration and most folks supporting VMS would rather part with almost any other technical resource. Ruth is an unparalled writer but also a stellar troubleshooter and a great instructor. Not just a technical work of art but also a delight with a whimsical mix of philosophical and poetical quotes putting each technical concept in context. Denise Dumas's contribution is not to be underestimated, a maven in her own right, she has clarified and complemented where few would be able. |
