4.0 out of 5 stars Finger- and Teeth saver!
Great tool to open those impossible-to-open jewelboxes that all the electronic gadgets come in. Spares you getting your fingers cut, your teeth broken, not to mention the frustration involved in reaching the product. Originally I read the review on similar tools by David Pogue of the New York Times who mentioned the Dual-X. This tool has 2 blades that enbale you first...

3.0 out of 5 stars Tough for left-handers
It's about time that someone created a tool such as this to open those tricky plastic packages. The idea is great, but like with so many other things, this tool is difficult to use for those of us who are left-handed. I'd love a left-handed version!

Originally I read the review on similar tools by David Pogue of the New York Times who mentioned the Dual-X. This tool has 2 blades that enbale you first to slit the package and then get the rest of the job done MUCH better than scissors, knives or perhaps, in desperation, hammers!

I've had this for over a year now and it pretty much works as advertised, but not a lot better than a knife and a pair of scissors. As far as safety goes, it's only slightly safer than using a knife to open, since the openx uses a blade (resembles a box knife) that retracts into the handle to make the first cut so that the package opening blade can be inserted. The products' construction is pretty good, feels solid, hard plastic and a sharp blade.

1.0 out of 5 stars Only a Fair to Mediocre Package Opener, December 16, 2006
This review is from: OpenX Dual Blade Universal Package Opener (Kitchen)
Seems to work OK on lightweight packages, but won't do the job on the tough plastic ones. Pushing action is difficult for us that cannot grip the tool firmly enough. I also scraped my knuckles on the plastic package trying to use the opener. Doesn't have a a guard to prevent this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent way to open plastic pzkaging, August 1, 2006
This review is from: OpenX Dual Blade Universal Package Opener (Kitchen)
This tool makes it easy to open hard bubble plastic packaging. Slice an opening then slice it open.

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless junk, March 21, 2007
This review is from: OpenX Dual Blade Universal Package Opener (Kitchen)
I thought this would be a nifty gadget, safer than a knife and easier to use than scissors. Also figured that for ~ $5.00 I couldn't go wrong... So much for that theory. This thing is completely useless. It's very poor quality, dull, and ergonomically awkward. It simply won't perform as advertised. After trying to open two packages I tossed it into the garbage and went back to my Leatherman tool. Don't waste your money!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Better Mouse Trap, October 29, 2004
This review is from: OpenX Dual Blade Universal Package Opener (Kitchen)
If it's true that when you invent a better mousetrap, the world will beat a path to your door, then the inventor of OpenX better fence of his/her porch quickly. Finally there's a way of getting things out of those annoying blister packs covered in what seems like bullet-proof kevlar. Given the fact that everything (it seems) that you buy in Home Depot, Office Depot, Staples, or CVS comes in a blister pack, this tool is just what the doctor ordered...literally! I don't know how man times I've cut myself--OK, maybe not e-room seriously, but bandaid seriously-- trying to open a blister pack without cutting what's inside or the directions on how to use what's inside. OpenX makes it easy and safe. This latter point is especially important because my two kids are no longer at risk when they open CDs or blister packs from CVS and the computer store. Slice open a small slit with one blade; enlarge it with the other, and pieces of packaging are no longer all over the floor. My only gripe with this tool as simple as it is, is that someone else and not I invented it. But then I'm shy and wouldn't want people beating paths across the lawn.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why didn't they think of this before?, October 29, 2004

Wow, the OpenX arrived two days after I ordered it. Why hasn't someone thought of this before? I tried it on some ink jet packages and it opened them like butter. You just puncture the plastic with a retractable blade and then slide the letter opener-type blade through the plastic. It also is a much better utility knife than the standard kind. The retractable blade is very ergonomic for opening cartons and the OpenX fits like it's an extension of your hand. I'm a little embarrassed to say that it's so much fun, I find myself going around the house looking for things to open. I highly recommend this product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good idea. Don't work as Expected., May 9, 2005
This review is from: OpenX Dual Blade Universal Package Opener (Kitchen)
I always have to struggle with plastic package, admitting the strength of my hands is below average. Why don't people invent an easier-to-open plastic package? There is always a risk of cutting my hands with those cut-up plastic.

I'm disappointed to find that this tool doesn't make it any easier than a pair of long scissors, which is already awkward enough. Punching a slid in the package can cause accidents if I were not careful. Pushing the blades through the plastic is also hard work.

Perhaps it's for people with strong hands. But then, I imagine a pair of long scissors is good enough for them???

4.0 out of 5 stars LOL, March 26, 2007
This review is from: OpenX Dual Blade Universal Package Opener (Kitchen)
Ok, so I read a nice review fo this product and decided to give it a try. The thing arrives fairly quickly from the outside vendor and as soon as I open the envelope it came in I bust up laughing.

It is packaged in the same "Stubborn Plastic Packages" that it claims to cut like butter.

So, how do I open it? :D I think I may need to order another one!
