"Just" good old rock 'n roll.....,

This review is from: Openers (Audio CD)
Copies of the original vinyl release of this fetch quite a few bucks on auction, for good reason. "Openers" was released on a small label, copies quickly sold out, and their manager (as the liner notes tell) never booked the anticipated second pressings. By the time this issue was rectified, the momentum had been lost, and Yancy Derringer faded away. Stylistically, the music reminds me of Deep Purple with some hard stomping tunes interspersed with ballads similar to the Purple's "April." The nugget is the last tune which intertwines occasional stream of consciousness lyrics with a familiar "shave and a haircut" rhythm: Bo Diddley meets Timothy Leary. The cover is pretty doggone cool too.
