Book Description

March 28, 2012 The Matt Davis Mystery Series
Opening Day is a 2012 B.R.A.G. Medallion Honoree
Young girls are coming through a pastoral Upstate New York fishing village...but, they aren't all coming out - alive! Following a close brush with death as an NYPD homicide detective, Matt Davis has taken early retirement, and accepted a position as Chief of Police in a small, rural Upstate New York village. While out fishing on his favorite stream, he stumbles across the remains of a body, barely recognizable as human, killed approximately six months earlier. With no physical evidence, no identification, and no clues, it's up to Matt to not only find the murderer, but to discover the identity of the victim. The big question, however, is: Are there others? Opening Day is the second in the Matt Davis Mystery Series, and picks up where As the Twig is Bent left off.

From the Author

Opening Day is a 2012 B.R.A.G. Medallion Honoree.   Young girls are coming through a small Upstate New York fishing village, but they aren't all coming out - alive! Following a close brush with death as an NYPD homicide detective, Matt Davis takes early retirement, and accepts what appears to be a cushy position as Chief of Police of a three-man department in Roscoe, known affectionately as Trout Town USA.  While out fishing on his favorite stream on the opening day of trout season, Matt stumbles across the murdered remains of a body, barely recognizable as a human being, killed approximately six months earlier. With no real physical evidence-no clothing, no identification, and no clues-it's up to Matt to not only identify the murderer, but to find the identity of the victim. But, in the end, it's the revelation of the unlikely killer's identity that will shock this tight-knit community to its very core, and leave the reader begging for more.
Opening Day is the second in the Matt Davis Mystery Series, and picks up where As the Twig is Bent left off.  Twice Bitten is the third, with a fourth, Broken Promises, scheduled for publication in May 2013.

A fourth Matt Davis Mystery, Broken Promises, will be released in 2013. More About the Author

Joe Perrone Jr. worked as a sportswriter for the Passaic-Clifton, NJ, Herald News, as well as a freelance advertising copywriter. Joe was also a professional fly-fishing guide for ten years in the Catskill Mountains of New York, and has had several fly-fishing short stories published in the Mid Atlantic Fly Fishing Guide. Both Opening Day and Twice Bitten are actually set in Roscoe, NY, the small Upstate New York fishing village where Joe was a guide. The author is perhaps best known for his Matt Davis Mystery Series, which includes As the Twig is Bent, Opening Day, and Twice Bitten (the most recent in the series). Joe's first novel, Escaping Innocence (A Story of Awakening), was published in 2008, and is an evocative coming-of-age novel set in the turbulent '60s. In addition to his four novels, Joe has authored two non-fiction works, A "Real" Man's Guide to Divorce (First, you bend over and...), published in 2009 and Gone Fishin' with Kids (How to Take Your Kid Fishing and Still be Friends), co-authored with Manny Luftglass, and published in 1997.

As the Twig is Bent is currently available as an audio book distributed through Audible.com. Two other Matt Davis Mysteries, Opening Day and Twice Bitten will be available in audio books later in 2013, as well as Escaping Innocence, which is currently being recorded and will become available in July. The audio books will be distributed by ACX.com through Amazon.com, Audible.com, and iTunes.
A fourth Matt Davis Mystery, Broken Promises, is scheduled for print and Ebook publication in July 2013, and will also become available later in the year as an audio book.

Opening Day was recently awarded an Indie B.R.A.G. Medallion, and in 2011, As The Twig Is Bent was translated into Portuguese as Pau que nasce torto by Rafa Lombardino of Word Awareness, Inc. of Santee, CA. Plans are underway to translate Opening Day and Twice Bitten into Portuguese in the very near future. All of Joe's books are available in paperback or in Kindle editions on Amazon.com.

Joe lives in Western North Carolina with his wife, Becky, and the couple's two cats, Callie and Cassie. The author enjoys hearing from his readers, and can be reached with comment and questions via Email at: joetheauthor@joeperronejr.com or by visiting his website at www.joeperronejr.com

this is the 2nd book of the Matt Davis Series that i read after stumbling across this talented author. although As the Twig is Bent will keep you guessing, this book was much easier to stomach. i think i figured out the killer before i figured out which one the victim would be! fast paced, easy read, easy to relate to & identify with characters. looking forward to the 3rd book of the series to come out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kept me in suspense June 7, 2010
Format:Paperback
"Opening Day" kept me in suspense the whole time. Not only did I not know who the killer was, but I couldn't guess which of the vulnerable young women was the victim. The settings an the character descriptions were vivid and chilling."

I've read all three Matt Davis Stories and he had me hooked in from the first page of "As the Twig is Bent" and I hope this will be a long running series . I especially loved Openning Day because it lent itself to great character development of Matt Davis...A regular guy with high morals and expectations and yes perhaps an occaisional leaning to proffessional burnout. (We've all been there} I love the way he mulls over the cases over and over until something clicks. The psychological twists near the book's end are disturbing yet gratifying. Joe Perrone's characters are real and tangible...I meet them every day...people who struggle to either make it to the top-or to simply survive, However His choice of settings are just remarkable. These are places that middle America forgets about and are fodder for mysteries and High jingo abounding. Fiction but real stuff man, really real. Keep it up Joe
