Torquing and tuning his long lines to the demands of rhyme, Ciaran Carson skitters from Northern Ireland to Romania to the "twin volcanoes" of Balalaika and Karaoke. From the Irish language to the Latin roots of English, words and stories proliferate, exuberantly and often hilariously, as Carson makes play of the "work" that is "Opera", evoking the aural "est" that lies in the introductory poem Eesti. As amply demonstrated within the pages of Opera Et Cetera, Carson's flair for poetry is expressive, innovative, and memorable. -- Midwest Book Review
