5.0 out of 5 stars Better than you'd think
I bought this on a whim because it looked like fun. It turned out to be one of the most enjoyable CD's I ever purchased. My wife and I have played many times, especially on long car trips, and it never ceases to entertain. However, many of the selections are not operatic at all: What Do You Do With a Drunken Sailor, an art song by Brahms, a selection from Carmina...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good music but not very Oktoberfest-like
The picture and title of this CD is misleading. Lot's of classical music, but not much to do with drinking beer. Maybe I have to understang Italian and German to get the significance of most of the songs, but this is definitely not a CD I will be playing during Oktoberfest.

My wife and I have played many times, especially on long car trips, and it never ceases to entertain. However, many of the selections are not operatic at all: What Do You Do With a Drunken Sailor, an art song by Brahms, a selection from Carmina Burana, and a movement from Mahler's Das Leid von der Erde, to name some off the top of my head. But it is all so delightful (with the possible exception of the Mahler) that who cares!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Gift Idea, January 16, 2007

This was a gift for a man in my life who is a beer conosouir and fluent in German. I fell in love with the cover art because it was so humourous. According to him, the music is also fun and entertaining. This could make an excellent unique gift for someone, even as a joke.
