Finding legal, honest, and trustworthy home day care for babies and small children is one of the toughest challenges facing parents today. Child care is also quickly becoming one of the fastest-growing businesses, with demand continuing to outstrip supply. Included here is a complete listing of the rules and regulations one needs to know and the licenses and contracts one needs to have to provide licensed day care as well as an explanation of what parents should look for when seeking outstanding day care. Experienced day-care provider Simmons also gives pointers on how to build and maintain a business, pass state inspections, market yourself and your business, and work with government agencies like Public Aid. Shari Steelsmith's How To Start a Home-Based Day Care Business (Globe Pequot, 1997, 2d ed. o.p.) presents similar points while adding activities for children, solutions for common problems, and ideas for future planning. As this is a popular type of home business, Simmons's book will be especially useful in public libraries.

Review
I've known Terri for about 6 years personally, and what I know of her is that she has a mother's heart for children. She has five of her own and has dedicated her life to those five as well as the many others she continues to care for. She doesn't just do day care because it's convenient; she does it because that is where her heart is - with the children. When it comes to day care, she knows what she's talking about. Take my advice, buy the book! --
Gayleen Merit, Professional, IllinoisTerri Simmons has been an encouragement to me in my home day care. She has given me tips on how to plan my day so that it runs smoothly; and has also given me information on several programs. I encourage anyone interested in starting a home day care to read this book! Terri is a woman with great wisdom in this area. --
Patricia Donald, Day Care Provider, IllinoisTerri Simmons has helped me in so many ways. I needed a break with childcare because I was going through a tough divorce a few years ago. She gladly gave me a discount for my then 2- year-old. When I was fired from my job, she encouraged me to go into day care. She took me through the steps and helped me with my homework. She's wonderful! Buy her book - she knows what she's talking about. --
