Spread a positive message with Operation Beautiful!

You're beautiful just the way you are. Smile! Let your inner beauty shine. Imagine walking into a dressing room and finding notes like these stuck to the mirror. How would it make you feel? Operation Beautiful is a movement that promotes positivity and self-esteem by encouraging people to post notes with uplifting messages in public places, all in the hopes of changing the way people see themselves. The movement started out with a website and became a book for adults that published in August 2010. Our new book features notes written by real girls from all over the world alongside stories of how writing and finding these notes has changed their lives. Author and Operation Beautiful creator Caitlin Boyle also shares tips meant especially for girls on issues such as body image, bullying, and healthy eating. This book is an essential read for all growing girls, and is organized and written in a way that is meant for girls to share with their moms or their best friends!

1.0 out of 5 stars is this book a joke? January 27, 2013
Format:Paperback
i should say that i didn't buy this book so i have no idea what the contents are truly like. if it's anything the author's blog, most of the info is something you could google. The author has zero credentials to write any books about adolescent behavior, child development, self-help, and nutrition/weight loss/exercise, etc.. i find the operation beautiful movement condescending towards others' emotions and ironically focused on physical beauty.

heads up - if you are on the fence about this purchase, most, if not all of the positive reviews are from friends or relatives of the author.

1.0 out of 5 stars Skip this book January 15, 2013

Format:Paperback
High on intention, low on quality. This book relies on a bunch of opinions and research at a quality anyone on Google could do.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I hoped January 23, 2013
By Shannon
Format:Paperback
Disclaimer: I didn't finish this book. In fact, I didn't get past the first chapter. So it is possible that it improves as it moves along, but I couldn't muster enough interest to continue. I've been reading Caitlin's blog for years, since it was See Bride Run, but I had never tried to read any of her books. I was looking for something for my niece (she's young for this, but I was thinking more of a future, long-term gift) as I think little girls are far too frequently socialized to want to be princesses, and as someone with body image issues, I was hoping to eventually help influence my niece to have a better relationship with her body. The ideas in this book are very basic and derivative and cliche. Don't get me wrong, I think it is great to spread positivity, but without substance I'm not sure how helpful it will really be. The writing is also lackluster. I really wanted to love this book, and am disappointed that I didn't. Maybe it is because I am an adult and this is meant for kids. I will probably check out Caitlin's other Operation Beautiful book and hopefully that will be more what I am looking for.

1.0 out of 5 stars Just Google May 1, 2013
By Lacey
Format:Paperback
I hope no one wastes their hard-earned money on this compilation of cliches and quotes that can be found on the internet for free. If you're considering purchasing this book for the Tween in your life, please check out the author's blog to get a real idea of the person you're supporting- it's full of resentment for her child and husband and pats on the back for what should be considered activities of daily living. She's really not inspiring at all, unless you aspire for mediocrity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute for adolescents March 11, 2013
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I love the ideas in this book. I bought this for my 13 year old niece, I thought that between the uplifting message & the ideas of putting sticky notes with positive messages all over her school, etc she would really enjoy it. She seemed excited about the idea! I know I would have really had fun with it when I was her age.

I bought a couple of these books for my sister and her friends. I love the message it sends to being confident in your own skin. My sister has since started leaving operation beautiful post it notes around her school and the positivity has spread like crazy. This book has done wonders for my 13 year old sisters confidence. Thank you Caitlin for this wonderful book.

By JNS
Format:Paperback
It's a tough life-especially for women and girls. We need as many strategies as possible to counter the negative messages that surround us and when better to learn ways to build a healthy self-concept than when you are young. This operation beautiful book delivers useful advice in a fun and cute layout. The advice and tips are practical and very pre-teen friendly.
