Book Description

Ashley Torrington never cared much about Christmas before. But this year she’s having a particularly blue holiday because Marine Special Operations Team member, Nick Turner got under her skin just before he was deployed to Afghanistan. With her neighbors’ precocious daughter Bella volunteering Ashley for a special project at school, and a mysterious white-haired stranger named Estelle in town buying gifts from Ashley’s shop, not to mention the odd assortment of presents Ashley’s been receiving from an anonymous source, she shouldn’t have time to worry about her guy. But when he and his team go missing the week before Christmas, she realizes only a Christmas miracle will reunite them.

Captain Nicholas Turner never backed down from challenges—on the battlefield or in his personal life. But he’d never met a challenge like Ashley, who doesn't want to be anyone’s “girl back home.” Now he’s on the other side of the world, wanting to be anywhere but in Afghanistan for Christmas. About to embark on one of the most dangerous missions of his life, he needs Ashley to know she’s much more than the girl he’d left behind, and he does plan to come home to her. But in the meantime, a little Christmas magic would be appreciated. Little does he know, he’s about to get his wish.

About the Author

Kay Springsteen grew up in Michigan but transplanted to the south about 10 years ago and now resides in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia with her five small dogs. Two of her four children live nearby, a married son who has a daughter of his own, and one of her twins. The other twin lives just outside of USMC Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. Her oldest daughter still resides in Michigan. When she's not writing, she is transcribing and editing medical reports. Besides being an avid reader, hobbies include photography, gardening, hiking and camping, and of course spending time with her terrific G-baby. She is a firm believer in happily ever after endings and believes there is one out there for everyone; it just may not be exactly what you expect or think you want.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just in time for Christmas! December 22, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Operation: Christmas Hearts was one of the sweetest books I've ever read...and just in time for Christmas!

Ashley never wanted to be the woman left at home waiting, yet as hard as she tried, she was unable to stop herself from falling in love with Nick Turner during his short stint at the nearby military base. Their story is told in the days leading up to Christmas while Nick is deployed and through a series of flashbacks from the past summer when they met.

It becomes clear immediately that neither have been straightforward with their feelings for the other, and both are left regretting the decision to leave it unsaid when Nick finds himself on a dangerous mission.

Our hearts are pulled back and forth as we watch their fear of never seeing each other grow and unfold in the scenes in the present, while we see them falling in love during the brief flashbacks.

Of course, because this is one of the most precious stories I've ever read, there is a gentle hand weaving little miracles together throughout the story that gives us hope that these two will be together again. Add in the sweet little girl with Downs' syndrome who can see angles, and you have yourself a story filled with hope and the belief that miracles do happen.

This is a great story that I would have enjoyed at any time of the year, but what a special treat to have read in the week before Christmas. I can't wait to read Heartsight by Ms. Springsteen.

This book is recommended for anyone who loves a sweet story, YA & up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Winner October 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
So this is just a sweet, beautiful romance, with some suspense, and an awesome happy ending. I haven't read any books by Ms. Springsteen that don't have happy endings. She believes in them - and miracles too. Angels are real and so are very special little girls. I usually read about ghosts and werewolves, but Ms. Springsteen's books are a great port in the storm.

Remember to leave a light on in the window.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Springsteen winner! December 18, 2011

Kay has done it again! I could not put the book down until I finished.. There are so many things to like about this book. There was Ashley, the shop owner, determined not to love a military man until she met Nick, who was determined to win her heart. Kay's descriptions of the small beach town, the deployment to Afghanistan and the Christmas miracles make you feel as if you are there. I loved the return of the characters from Heartsight, Ashley, Dan, Trish and Bella. Being a pet lover, I especially enjoyed the addition of Hal, the dog. If you love a romance novel without the sex scenes, which I do, you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Stellar Novel December 8, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Once again Kay enticed me into her novel and I didn't want to leave. This novel has it all- emotion, romance, worry, angels, and favorite characters from her Heart Series. The Hero Nick is deployed to Afghanistan before either Nick or Ashley declare their love. I was on pins and needles reading this one. Every time I read Nicks point of view my stomach clenched waiting for something to happen. Kay had me guessing until the end. Her words are pure magic and it makes my day when I see that she has written a new novel. I get a surge of excitement as though I've been given a treasure. Her novels are treasures.

5.0 out of 5 stars a different kind of a christmas story December 3, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this sweet and tingly (not syrupy) romance as it took me back to the days of meeting my sailor (now husband of 35 years). The story is based in 2011 so its very up to date. Ashley is a gift shop owner in a small beach front town and Nick is the marine she meets and a delightful romance follows. Nick and Ashley think back on their dates as they are separated by his deployment and strange things happen that seem to say they do belong together. Even moreso when Nick is hurt by bomb in Afghanistan and is missing in action. A wonderful and different christmas story dealing with military lives, romance, friends and even angels!

More About the Author

Kay Springsteen is a romance junkie and a chocolate addict, who makes her home in Virginia near the Blue Ridge Mountains. She can and does write anywhere, and often incorporates little oddities of her every day life into her stories. Her family has learned the hard way to maintain a low profile in order to stay off her radar, for fear they will find themselves crafted into her latest novel. Kay is a Christian, who is passionate about all life. She has been an outspoken advocate for homeless persons, shelter pets, the environment, military and first responder personnel, community outreach, education, and people of all ages who have disabilities.

Kay can often be found taking long hikes in the mountains with one or two of her terrific rescue dogs, but she's just as content to stay home gardening or simply spending time with her wonderful family. You might even find her at Starbucks writing. But if she sees you, watch out! You might just end up in one of her books. She believes in magic and real-life fairy tales, and the romance of life, and knows everyone has a happily ever after waiting out there somewhere. But until you get to it, why not pick up a good book and think about the possibilities?
