Really Good Stuff,
This review is from: Operation EMU (Paperback)
Brandon Barker not only knows how to write (rara avis, these days), but, even more important, has also refined the art of entertaining the reader.
Operation Emu is a wonderfully amusing, gripping and entertaining book, and at the same time it gives plenty of food for thought about how our lives are constantly at risk of being manipulated.

Great Reading!,
This review is from: Operation EMU (Paperback)
This book is hilarious! The story is fantastic, and it reads like buttah. The characters are rich and the dialogue brisk. This is a great book for anyone with a zany sense of humor and a love of 1950s/1960s Science Fiction B-Movies. Parodying the movie industry, actors, government and NASA, Operation EMU is a must-read.

Simply put a well paced and very funny novel from Mr. Barker. There are times that it is laugh out loud funny (literally) and you just can't stop reading in need to know what's in store in the next chapter. I would highly recommend to those who enjoy satire and science fiction. Best yet it is available for the Kindle!

If you love satire, comic novels and sometimes have to wait years for the next good one, this is your holiday season! Buy this book!
Reviewers compare Barker to Calvin Trilin, but he's better than Trillin. More on the order of Tom Sharpe, with the detail-fixation of Tom Wolfe and the "here n nowness" of Don Delillo. We all know that NASA lives on food stamps, but this is the first serious attempt to answer the question: how do they escape earth's atmosphere clipping coupons? Anybody who's ever played with Star Wars action figures, anyone who's ever made or watched a B-grade movie--or worked with Roger Corman or Zalman King--anyone who's ever dreamed of an ultimate and meaningful escape but worries whether that will be covered by their life insurance policy, will see themselves in Operation Emu. Put this on the holiday list for your friends, cousins or God Forbid your siblings living in L.A. and working in the industry. The last book I read that felt so true to Hollywood life was "Shadows on a Wall"--and that wasn't even funny. Can't go wrong with this one. Five stars.

It took me a little while to get into this book, but once I did, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Give it a try - if you like satire and space schlock, you won't be disappointed.
