The Best Thing Ever,
By A Customer
This review is from: Operation: Firebrand (Operation: Firebrand Series #1) (Paperback)
I bought this book not expecting much from it. The only reason I picked it up to read today was because I had nothing better to do. Once I had finished the first page, I was hooked. The rest of my day was spent reading the book, and now that I'm finished I only wish I could have the pleasure of reading it again for the first time. This book is great. The characters are wonderful and believable. The story was just... wow. Call me stupid, but I was hardly able to predict anything that would happen later in the story while I was reading. I've never read anything like it in this type of book. The story is refreshingly unique. Instead of the typical main character good guy fighting against evil character bad guy, a large focus of the book was the main character fighting his own feelings towards life and himself. Wow is all I can say. I almost wish that this book was in a series so that I could go on more missions with Jason, Rachael, Garth, Chimp, and the others. In conclusion, it's an amazing book and you all should read it.

Operation Firebrand,
By Rebekah Martin (MI,USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Operation: Firebrand (Operation: Firebrand Series #1) (Paperback)
Recently becoming a Christian, Jason Kromer, a Navy SEAL, finds himself questioning his ability to perform his duties as a sniper. When his hesitation during a mission causes his best friend to be wounded, Jason gets out of the military and searches for a new job.
He finds one in the billionaire CEO of defense contractor ABL Corp., Eloise Webster. She is organizing a team of specialized experts to go into dangerous situations, using only non-lethal weapons to accomplish the mission and insuring no casualties. While it takes convincing, Jason joins as team leader and begins training with the other members of Team Firebrand. The rest of the team includes Rachel, language specialist/con artist; Trieu, sniper/doctor; Lewis, computer and electronics expert; Garth, former Green Beret/explosives and escape-and-evasion specialist; Chris, former Marine Force Recon/point man. Operation Firebrand was an interesting, intense read. The plot was well-thought out, though slightly unbelievable. The constant restating of the fact Team Firebrand would use only non-lethal weapons did get tiring, as did the rather negative attitude toward lethal weapons but it wasn't blatant enough to make the book not enjoyable. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

This book has been on my shelf for about a year now. I have a habit of buying books and putting them on the shelf, and not reading them for a long time, or maybe never reading them at all. I have started to break this mold recently, as I have read 1 book a week for the past 3 months. My reason for choosing this book at this time is that I am looking at joining the Christian Writer's Guild, led by Jerry Jenkins, and I just recently found that Mr. Scott is a mentor (or Master Writer) for this group. I wanted experience some of his work, and I am very impressed. I really like military thrillers with a Christian theme. Now, I would not call this book a "thriller" but it was definately militarily based with Christian themes and characters. With a Navy SEAL leading your team, you can hardly go wrong. This story uses God's people to rescue those in need. A very creative and well-thought story, which I think the world might actually need if a unit like this doesnt' already exist. I have never heard of such a unit, but maybe that is the point. Either way, this book could very well be based on a reality that the public is unaware of. There are 2 more books in this series after this book. I am very much looking forward to reading more of Jefferson Scott's work. I am a new fan!!!

Just want to pass the message on that this good man, has written an excellent book! Through his crafty creation of dramatic situations we get to see what it really would be like to serve at His right hand and help people everywhere. I totally loved both books in the series and look foward to the next one! I am an avid reader and writer, and can say I aspire to write someday like you! (not to mention, live in the Akron area!) :)Hoooooraahhhh! Let's here it for our military forces!

Operation Firebrand,

Best book ever. If you have read this one I recommend the sequel called "Operation Firebrand: Crusade: Let My People Go". It was just as good. I hope that Jefferson Scott continues to write his books because I will always be his fan. He includes great detail and suspense beyond belief. I hope that all those who choose to read this will enjoy the book as much as I did.

Not at all what I expected,

When God draws me to a book, sometimes He has to point it out to me more then one time. That was definitely the case with this book. I was in the Christian Book store and I saw the cover. Immediately I thought it was a book about a fire man. Then I saw that it said, "WAR IS HELL. That's why the world needs us." I thought, duh, and your point is, Mr. Scott? I walked away from the book, yet thinking about it the whole time. Needless to say, the next time I came upon it, it looked more interesting. So, when I got some money for my birthday, this book was one among four that I happened to purchase that day. I still wasn't expecting anything very impressive. I was so wrong, and I'm glad that God knows me better, a lot better than I know myself! I found myself engulfed in the story. You can see that certain people have their weaknesses. Jason's reluctance to join the Firebrand team illustrates how we as Christians can sometimes question God and why He calls us to do certain things. One person who caught my eye was Lewis when he overcame his own fear in one part of the book. When I say that, I give nothing away. It is a witness to me how someone such as 'Chimp' could change as well, and be a witness and a leader at the same time in the middle of crisis. This was a prime example of the old saying, "You can't judge a book by it's cover." I thank God for once again opening my eyes.

It's rare that I read a book that is action packed, suspenseful, and funny. Add the great character development and you have a wonderful book. I liked way tthe author presented Jason's arguements against joining the team, I was wondering alot of the same things myself. I admit one of the scenes was like watching a Die Hard movie, but in my oppinion it just made the book more enjoyable.

This was my first introduction to Jefferson Scott. I enjoyed it so much, I plan on buying anything else he writes. I loved the excitment of the team concept he gave us, including how the team was put together and why. What a great approach to being Christian heroes! If you like action, you'll love this book.

I bought this book expecting it to be good, but I didn't expect to be sucked into the lives of the characters. This book was well written and flowed wonderfully. Just when you think you've figured things out, Scott throws another great surprise around the corner. Fast moving, he fleshes out the characters without boring you with details. I love this book and can't wait to read the next!
