Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Operation Flashpoint: Elite offers the ultimate realistic war experience, which draws the player into a deeply believable military environment. For the first time in an action game, the player controls and commands not just soldiers and squads of all levels, but also land, sea, and air vehicles--both military and civilian--from cars to APCs, tanks, and even military helicopters.

The scenario is modern warfare: It is 1985, in the midst of the Cold War, and Gorbachev has been elected to power bringing with him policies of glasnost and perestroika. However, resistance Soviet groups are opposed to the new wave and are refusing to serve the new regime in Moscow. One group has taken control of an island community, and is using it as an armed stronghold for the old order. Operation Flashpoint: Elite opens with the player joining the neighboring U.S. force against the Soviets.

Additionally, a prequel campaign titled Resistance, set years before Operation Flashpoint’s Cold War Crisis, has been added. Resistance creates an additional 100km2 island and casts the player as Victor Troska, an experienced ex-Special Forces soldier forced to lead the ramshackle Resistance effort against the Soviets before the invasion of the Malden Islands.

Features:

  • Drive and fly over 40 true-to-life U.S. and Soviet vehicles and aircraft
  • Fight using any of 30+ authentic U.S. and Soviet weapons
  • 15 solo missions and 7 instant-action missions
  • Command a squad of troops with an all-new intuitive commanding interface
  • Play an enthralling campaign with over 30 missions or more than 15 solo missions
  • Unlock hidden missions and features including the full 18 mission campaign "Resistance"
  • Explore four sprawling 100+km battle zones
  • Extremely detailed simulation of the environment, including dynamic weather and daytime changes, real star constellation, and tide simulation.
  • Create your own scenarios using the built-in mission editor
  • Engage live opponents via Xbox Live or system link in over 50 different missions
  • Joystick and wheel control support with the ability to switch between controllers at any time during game play
  • Engage in realistic immersive combat on Xbox Live

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Military Games Ever, December 5, 2005
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Operation Flashpoint Elite (Video Game)
Operation Flashpoint was one of the best military games ever to come out for PC, and this is pretty much just a direct port of that game over to Xbox. So, if you have already played all the missions on PC, they're all here, unchanged on the Xbox version, so you might be a little bored with it

Other than that, this game is perfect. You hear some people bitch because the graphics aren't Halo level or whatever, but they're fine and really the fact that things look a little hazy farther away adds to the realism.

If you never played Operation Flashpoint on PC, I can't recommend this game highly enough. Ghost Recon was basically just a Flashpoint rip off, and Flashpoint does it better and offers you a more open ended experience, especially when compared with Ghost Recon 2 and its add ons.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a True Tactical Shooter, November 24, 2005
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Operation Flashpoint Elite (Video Game)
Sometimes there is more than one enemy at 3 O'clock. ;-)

Considering the fact that the terrains included are FIVE 12 kilometer x 12 kilometer (or about 8 mile x 8 mile) completely unique islands where having skill at reading a topographical map is a distinct advantage, the graphics are excellent. HDR lighting, real-time shadows, depth-of-field effects, multiple LOD's, a completely realistic moving starfield, real-time day/night cycle and lighting, flying insects and birds with their own A.I., real tidal cycles and wave action proportionate to the state of the weather. The list goes on. Soviet soldiers have never looked so realistic in a PC game.

The developers somehow managed to take a game that ran with 256 Megs of RAM and make it work WELL on a console with 64 Megs of RAM.

A great deal of lies are being told about this game, probably because it is such an EMBARRASSMENT to all of the many watered-down titles claiming to be tactical-shooters, World War II Online and the very old "SEAL Team" by Electronic Arts probably being the only two exceptions.

In considering whether to buy this title, one might consider that Operation Flashpoint: Elite is basically the first military SIMULATION to grace the X-Box.

If you want to play a game that actually simulates real Army combined-arms operations, then this is the game for you. You cannot, however, scratch its depth in a 30-minute taste. The more you explore the gameplay and the islands, the greater your realization will be that this is the tactical shooter you've always wanted to play.

If you would rather be playing Halo or Doom, this game is not for you. For those who used to play Doom on the PC because they did not know that "SEAL Team" existed, Operation Flashpoint: Elite will feel like the tactical playground you've always wanted.

Operation Flashpoint: Elite is such a full-featured and realistic tactical-shooter that if you are planning on serving in the United States Army or United States Marine Corps any time soon, it would behoove you to get this 60+ hours of scenario training under your belt before you ship out to Iraq or Afghanistan. Chances are that you will see the game during your military service, as there is a version made just for the military called VBS1.

If you join the rest of us on the X-Box Live battlefield, be sure to ask for help. You should find the community quite willing to lend advice. You've never seen teamwork play such a heavy role in the outcome of a mission as you will in Operation Flashpoint: Elite.

Every Soldier Counts!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, but Not Perfect, October 22, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Operation Flashpoint Elite (Video Game)
Are you in to realistic military games? Have you logged over 40 hours into Ghost Recon? Have you played Socom: U.S Navy Seals at your friends house more times than he has? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you will love this game. When you start up this game, you will proboly notice that the graphics aren't that good. That is the only flaw about this game. In 2001 this game was realeased on the PC, and it was great. It was basically an offline Battlefield 1942. Now thatit is on the X-Box it carries over the awesome action of the PC version and adds nice control and x-box live functionality.(Not a lot of people play online so you might have to do some searching) This game is a dedicated military simulation that takes place near the mid 80's. So you WW2 enthusiests might want to look elsewhere. This game also features a mission creator which isn't just a level creator. You choose both teams weapons, vehicles(there are a lot to choose from), and Spawn Points.

This is a great game. If you can get past the bad graphics, you will find a deep and imersive shooter. Of corse, if you want a modern day military simulation, you might want to try America's Army. If you want a little less realism try Ghost Recon. But if you want the best military sim ever, buy this game.
