i am big time shark enthusiast, and this dvd colection was big disapointment. Picture and sound quaility are below what you would expect from dvd. i guess if you want to learn more about sharks, this would be good begining. If you are someone like myself , stick to good old WHS for time been. Since this dvd is nothing more but bad colection of footages taken from VHS tapes. I would recomend you to skip this dvds and browse amazon.com for whs tapes on sharks. there should be plenty of good ones. p.s. still is one good good thing about this colection, extremely cheap!

Shark Week all year long,
By Peter West "Danger Seeker" (Roseville, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Operation Shark Attack 1-5 (DVD)
I quickly recognised these dvd's as episodes of the Discovery Channel's Shark Week collection. I was impressed with the transfer and they are remastered! The only episode that had old video was the first one, Operation Shark Attack about Ron and Val Taylor testing a mesh shark suit. There are two pieces of trivia about sharks and five multiple choice questions (good for kids)on each dvd. I think this is a great value will provide enjoyment for both parents and children.

I think that 5 DVDs could have been compressed to 3. There is repetition of information in a couple of places and there is no real "flow" from one program to the next. The footage is clear and the ommentary is good, but I was left feeling a need for more. I think one or two parts of the films could be skipped altogether. However, it's interesting if you like sharks.

Low Quality Shark DVD,

This review is from: Operation Shark Attack: Tiger Shark (DVD)
I was disappointed with this DVD. I am very interested in sharks and have watched many shark movies. This is one of the lower quality ones I have seen. There are several problems with the film. First, the makers have very little footage of free-swimming tiger sharks. Viewers are shown the same small segments of wild tiger sharks numerous times. Second, a huge portion of the film (almost 50%) is devoted to following the activities of a professional shark catcher who catches and delivers live sharks to aquariums. The shark catcher is interesting and it is neat to see how he collects and cares for his sharks. However, tiger sharks are rarely mentioned during this large segment (most of it deals with sandbar sharks) and most of the segment documents him trying to send a shipment of sharks to France. Again it is somewhat interesting, but it really drags on.
Overall, the film starts with a short interview with a tiger shark attack victim in Hawaii. It then describes a spell of Hawaiian shark attacks from the early 1990s and the local governments reaction to them. Next it follows the activities of a Hawaiian shark researcher. Finally it gets into the never-ending story of the shark catcher. Tales of the Tiger Shark is not so much a bad movie as it is a dull movie. With a name like Operation Shark Attack one pictures lots of action. Little happens during the film and what does happen tends to drag. People who must see every shark film should see it, though I'm sure they won't watch it twice. Others should look for better titles. Air Jaws is great (despite the silly sounding name); it has lots of action and the science is well described.
