Book Description

An attractive female American doctor working at the Kandahar Air Base field hospital takes a special interest in a local teenage boy, wounded when he tried to set off a bomb. What no one at the hospital knows is that she is also a CIA agent, part of an elite 4-man team based at the Kandahar Air Base in Afghanistan. And she thinks the boy just may be able to help her team.

Meanwhile, the CIA agents get a tip that if NATO soldiers eat at a Kandahar City teahouse on a specific date, they will be contacted about impending Taliban movements. With accurate intelligence on the Taliban hard to come by, two agents have lunch at the appointed time.

Unbeknownst to them, this one act will set in motion a chain of events that will forever change the lives of one Afghan family and pit two countries with nuclear weapons capability - Pakistan and India - on a devastating collision course.

This is the third novel in M.H. Sargent's popular MP-5 CIA series. The other novels include Seven Days From Sunday, The Shot To Die For, The Yemen Connection and Alliance of Evil. Sargent has also written a mystery set during WWII, Toward Night's End

***Includes bonus excerpt from the next book in the series, The Yemen Connection***

Review

PRAISE FOR M.H. SARGENT

"The book does an excellent job in portraying the difficulties of obtaining humint (human intelligence) in another culture where most of the population hates you and you have to fight interservice rivalries. The novel is an absolute page-turner, both compelling and absolutely believable." ~ Jonathan Tomes

5.0 out of 5 stars Operation Spider Web June 3, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
First read Seven Days from Sunday. Then read A Shot to Die for. Now you're ready for Operation Spider Web. I hope you love the recurring characters as much as I do. I could not put any of these books down. Gonz, Heisman, McKay, Peterson all work well together and understand each other. You learn a little about other cultures, and have fun figuring out what is going on. Sargent has a way with working in twists and turns that I love. Farishta and Jamaal are cousins and become involved in helping the CIA figure out why a meeing is taking place nearby, what it might have to do with the collapse of Banks, and ultimately the discovery of powerful missles. Get all three of these books and you'll be waiting for the fourth one like I am.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Page Turning Suspense from Sargent June 7, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Operation Spider Web is another timely tale of mystery and intrigue from M.H. Sargent! After reading Seven Days From Sunday and The Shot To Die For, the CIA team characters seem like old friends who bring the escalating suspense to a stunning peak during their latest assignment in Afganistan.

I hope the books from this new author will be found in the Kindle Top Sellers very soon! That might mean there will be more fascinating reading yet to come featuring this American CIA team and the local residents who share the shocking dangers inherent in the conflicts of this time in history as well as the same goals.

More About the Author

M.H. Sargent is the author of the popular MP-5 CIA series. Each novel has Sargent's elite CIA team on a mission overseas, from Iraq and Afghanistan to Mexico. When asked about the deciding factor of writing a novel that takes place in Iraq, at a time when Americans were not very enthused about the war and might not want to read a novel set in that country, the author says, "Years ago, I obtained the screen rights to Aimme West's story - her husband had been deployed in the first Gulf War and came home ill. Then she had a child with severe birth defects. She did a lot of research and found that she wasn't alone - many wives were having birth defect children after their husbands returned from the war. Her insistence that something went wrong over there led to Congressional hearings and the revelation that our guys were given experimental vaccines overseas. So, when we went into Iraq the second time, I was really worried about our military. Were they going to face chemical and biological weapons? Were they going to be given experimental drugs? Then I started thinking about the Iraqis. What were they thinking? I imagine like people the world over, when war comes to your door, you worry about your family members first and foremost. Then you worry about your neighbors. Your community. Your country. And mostly, you just want it to end, you want to have peace and quiet. So that started me on the track, how about a novel that shows an Iraqi family? Shows what they are going through? What fears do they live with daily? And their take on the Americans coming in. That was Seven Days From Sunday. Then I just kept writing."
