This book depicts the true nature and of the UFO mystery.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Operation Trojan Horse (Paperback)
This is a book of UFOs and the paranormal which does not parrot the popular line. It demonstrates the nexus existing between the various types of paranormal manifestations (ufos, hairy monsters, demons and ghosts, MIB, etc.) And, most significantly, Keel proves that the correct identity/source of UFOs are not aliens from other planets traveling aboard "spacechips" of "very advanced technology." This book not only explains the nature of UFOs and paranormal critters, but it can greatly assist the individual in coming to a true and greatly extended conception regarding the basic nature of reality. I make the same comments about Keel's other books. This book is a must-read for anyone interested in UFOs or any facet ot the paranormal.

One of the must have books of Ufology,

This review is from: Operation Trojan Horse (Paperback)
This book (along with one or two others) has had a profound influence on my view of UFOs. It starts off by examining some of the stranger UFO cases, and goes on to show that the beings inside UFOs are not aliens from outer space, but something different entirely.
Well written, thought provoking, and humorous, this is a book you simply must read!

As a devout Keel reader of the last 30 yrs I would have to put this at the top of his list. Those familiar with Keel know that his belief is that UFOs are not extraterrestrial in nature but "ultra-terrestrial".This book explains UFOs and their relationship with phantom/faerie lore,poltergeist/hauntings,religious "phenomena",and magic. If you are a fan of Mr.Keel or into the paranormal/ufo phenomenon,or just would like a different point of view, you MUST have this book.

Operation Trojan Horse is essential for any student of the occult. Mr Keel's brilliant thesis on the "ultraterrestrial" hypothesis needs to be read . . . albeit, with the proverbial "grain of salt."
You see, shortly after the 1970 version of this book was published, Mr Keel was not only "contacted" by the subjects of his research -- they refused to leave him alone! As a result he was driven insane. This is most clearly evident in his later work, "The Eighth Tower." A few of Keel's other works ("This Haunted Planet" and "The Mothman Prophesies") are noteworthy, but not in the same class as OTH. The opinion of the ultraterrestrials regarding this book seems to have been, "He wrote WHAT??? Oh, no -- can't have that! Let us put him at the top of our list of folks who need to be f**ked with. . ." The first edition almost did not see print, and a 2nd edition was never published until this revised edition came out in the late 1990s. Meanwhile, between Keel stating things like, "God is insane, and an ancient computer keeps sending BEAMS INTO MY HEAD!" (paraphrased from "The Eighth Tower"), and allegations of ultraterrestrial Dopplegangers impersonating him across the land -- well, let us say that his (ahem) "credibility" has suffered considerably. Regardless of Keel's mental illness (from which he eventually seemed to recover), sloppy research, and bizarre speculations; OTH stands out as perhaps the best thing ever written about multi-dimensional entities. Keel spends a lot of time discussing the nature of the electromagnetic spectrum, and goes in depth regarding little known facts common to many witness accounts (things which were left out of official reports, as they contradicted the preconceptions of "scientifically biased" investigators). Keel's investigation shows that this sort of thing has been going on throughout recorded history. Starting with ancient mythology, and progressing onto folk legends, then delving into old reports of "airships," "ghost planes," "foo fighters," and modern "black helicopters," Keel presents a convincing argument that these are not the result of human conspirators, but rather a multi-dimensional intelligence which can assume any guise it wishes. Perhaps the most important point that Keel makes is that these intelligences ARE NOT TO BE TRUSTED. Indeed, he states that the many reports of "aliens" observed performing nonsensical actions (making "repairs," collecting soil samples, performing medical examinations, and delivering lectures about the dangers of atomic energy to inbred hillbillies) are nothing more than a charade intended to make us believe that they are something other than what they are. Keel believes that the only reason for such a ruse would be hostile intent. He then expands this argument by referring to the hundreds of "contactees" (as well as spirit mediums & New Age "channellers") who have been given a series of valid prophesies -- which then compel them to either go on a wild goosechase, make public announcements of impending doom, or even form destructive cults. But consider this . . . what if it isn't "hostile intent" at all? What if the ultraterrestrials are just kicking back, drinking some beers, and one of 'em goes, "Hey -- you know what would REALLY mess with their minds?" Perhaps it is nothing more than a warped sense of humor!

The Truth is Stranger,
By Jon Bartholomew (Bluefield, VA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Operation Trojan Horse (Paperback)
There are those who believe in aliens.... ther are those who believe in 'little people'... and, there are those who believe in religion.... According to John Keel, they are all connected. Read this book, full of interesting theories about the supernatural.... (some of said theories are 'out there,' but interesting nontheless.

IMPORTANT BOOK------EVIL BOOK SELLERS PRICE TOO HIGH,
This review is from: Operation Trojan Horse (Paperback)
this book started the wave of changing the view of the ufo mystery to a somehow stranger direction. john keel, from what little I have read, is a great thinker and pushed his mind, and by extension ours, or those willing, to a new way to look at an already baffling subject.
that being said---SHAME ON YOU SELLERS FOR JACKING THE PRICE OF THIS BOOK TO THE HEAVENS. FOR SHAME. funny part is, no one will buy it at that price, seeing as how they can either search elsewhere or.....find it online in an e-book form....FOR FREE. so to that end I give you the british 2 fingers and tell you to "get stuffed".

...but he rarely failed to entertain.
This was a very influential book in its day. Throughout the 1970s there was a shift from the "nuts and bolts" extraterrestrial spaceship UFO theories to the more vague and fuzzy psychic and occult explanations. This book, along with Vallee's "Passport to Magonia" launched that trend. At the beginning of the 1980s the pendulum swung back as crashed saucers and abductions ushered in a new conspiracy/paranoid UFO culture that is still very much with us. Keel's thesis is that the extraterrestrial hypothesis just doesn't hold water. The reports, he maintains, are just too inconsistent, too bizarre, and just too downright silly to be reduced to such an explanation. Most skeptics would agree with him here and start to argue for a psychological/sociological explanation instead. But this is John Keel we're talking about! He posits that UFO are actually "ultraterrestrial" in origin and ties them to fairies, ghosts, poltergeists, vampires, leprechauns, and just about every other legendary or mythic folklore creature he can come up with. One is left wondering just what would make Keel say "Oh, come on, I'm not buying that!" That's what makes this book so charming and entertaining. One has the distinct feeling that one's leg is being pulled. Keel makes the most outrageous statements like Lincoln was a spiritualist who used seances to make decisions during the Civil War and Hitler saw himself as the antichrist. He contradicts himself at numerous points. He never tries to prove his thesis with evidence; he just tries to prop up one unknown (UFOs) by invoking other unknowns (you name it). Keel considers himself a Fortean and like most Forteans you just can't really decide what he truly believes. If you like tightly reasoned, well researched, and meticulously documented studies this is definitely not the book you want to read. But if you like outrageous speculation, incredible anecdotes, and bizarre claims delivered tongue-in-cheek with a wink (but maybe he was serious!), which infuriated skeptics and believers alike, you'll like this one.

An Honest Voice in the Midst of the Paranormal Wilderness,
This review is from: Operation Trojan Horse (Paperback)
Between the modern Inquisition of CSICOP and the pseudo-mystical/religious cults of UFO buffs stands John Keel. Before you come to any conclusions about UFO's and Strange Phenemenon you must read Keel. A strong dose of critical thinking and a needed tonic between head-in-the-sand skepticism and believe-all ET religions.

If you've ever thought "there must be more to this ufo thing than I'm being told" than you might find some stimulating, thought provoking ideas in this book. The answer to all those questions about the whole ufo and related "fringe" areas of unusual happenings MAY not be "visitors" from an alien planet. John A. Keel has down the research necessary to provide an exciting and insightful look at a subject often veiled in mystery, misdirection and misunderstanding. First published about forty years ago this fascinating look at a topic still shrouded in secrecy and ignorance,is an amazing eye opener to this day. Lots of highlighting in my copy....re-reading is as much fun as the first read.

A good analysis of the UFO phoenomenon along with mythology and religion,
This review is from: Operation Trojan Horse (Paperback)
John Keel is remarkable in how he analyzes the information regarding UFO encounters. The scariest thing is that I have read esoteric literature that explains the same exact conclusion that he came up to: We are "property" of some "higher level beings".
You may think I am crazy, but if you read this book along with his other books, you will see that the clues point to something more nefarious than expected. |
