The title of this book was inspired by Dr. Mary Pipher's nonfiction work, "Reviving Ophelia." According to the author, "This book provides a drug-free outlet for her (a girl's) emotions, teaching her to deal with her emotions, not anaesthetize them."
"This journal has four components. The first is the rainbow of seven promises which the girl makes to herself, each promise a different color of the rainbow. The seven promises create seven chapter headings. The second and third components are on each page within the promise chapters - one is a quotation from age-appropriate classic literature and the other is a tickler to jump-start her thought process. Blank lines follow the tickler, creating the space for the fourth component - her original thoughts while simultaneously allowing her individual expression."
