Book Description

December 2002
Glaucoma medical therapy has evolved with the advent of each new drug. This evolution has moved quickly and generated new information that clinicians need to understand, synthesize, and implement about medications that have specific benefits and risks for their glaucoma patients. This book aims to provide clinicians with an accessible guide to the current art and science of using clinically available drugs for the medical therapy of glaucoma. The contributors have attempted to present evidence-based information, while providing perspective from their clinical experience. In order to reflect the extensive changes that have occurred since the publication of the first edition in 1999, new chapters have been added about fixed combination drugs and the medical treatment of pediatric patients, and existing chapters have been thoroughly revised and updated. Glaucoma Medical Therapy will be a valuable reference for ophthalmologists in both practice and training, as well as for other practitioners who have clinical contact with glaucoma patients.

Review

"A complete reference to help ophthalmologists and those in training keep up with this rapidly changing field."--Doody's

"Medical therapy for glaucoma has undergone a revolution in the last 12 years. The special value of this book is its wide coverage of medical therapy from many angles, providing an extensive account of ocular pharmacology, clinically relevant information on individual drugs in each class, a discussion of medical therapy in the context of the large glaucoma treatment trials, as well as the medical treatment of angle closure, secondary glaucomas, glaucoma in pregnancy and glaucoma in children. Glaucoma Medical Therapy is an exceptional reference source for specialists and generalists who treat glaucoma."--Keith Barton, MD, FRCP, FRCS, Consultant Ophthalmologist and Glaucoma Service Director, Moorfields Eye Hospital

"I greatly enjoyed reading this book. It's both a very comprehensive resource, as well as a very practical how to do guide. Easy and enjoyable to read. Impressive and definitive. Totally comprehensive!"--David L. Epstein, MD, MMM, Joseph A.C. Wadsworth Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology and Chairman, Department of Ophthalmology, Duke University Medical Center

"This is a practical and highly useful resource for all ophthalmologists dealing with glaucoma. Many conceptual and therapeutic advances have been made since the original edition in 1999. The reader will find currently relevant information, as all chapters have been thoroughly updated. Both residents and clinicians will welcome this clearly written and well-illustrated new book."--Murray A. Johnstone, MD, Consultant in Glaucoma, Swedish Medical Center

"Dr. Netland has done a masterful job of editing the second edition of Glaucoma Medical Therapy. Since the first edition, there have been major advances in glaucoma pharmacology and the medical management of glaucoma, and these are nicely reflected in each chapter, all of which have been extensively revised. Each chapter has been written by world leaders in the various fields of glaucoma medical therapy and provides the most authoritative, comprehensive and clinically relevant information that is currently available on the subjects. This book provides both the student and practitioner with the most up-to-date, accurate and comprehensive guide for the medical management of our patients with glaucoma."--M. Bruce Shields, MD, Marvin L. Sears Professor and Chairman Emeritus, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, Yale University School of Medicine
