I was first introduced to this fragrance as a teenager, when my older and more sophisticated sister would wear it in the 80s. I remember sneaking in her room, spraying it on, and feeling so grown up and pretty! I have always loved the spicy scent and have never really found another fragrance that comes close to it, except with maybe Gucci by Gucci. Its a true classic that has never gone out of style. There must be something alot of people love about it, because it's been around for years! I still wear it when I want to feel sexy and pretty and bring back lots of memories of being a teen!

I have been wearing this fragrance for over 20 years, since the new bottle has been introduced the scent is not the same, unless my bottle was mislabeled. I used to love this, but now I will always make them give me a tester before I buy

I love Opium, it is such a sensual scent, brings back many happy memories. Makes you feel very sexy and beautiful.

I first began wearing Opium in 1982! It was my first perfume given to me by my older brother from his first job at an airport gift store in Puerto Rico. I loved it then and will not wear no other perfume! You must try it to believe that you will fall in love with the smell.

I don't think it is the original eau de toilette. I have been using this product for a long time and I can see the difference. I use it every day and in the past people used to ask me all the time what perfume I was wearing. Now, I can not smell it and it doesn't stay in my body.

My wife loves this stuff, and I have to admit it still makes me go woof-woof. I always get her a new one when I see she is running out. So impressed was I, that I purchased Opium for Men (which is also great). Now we are both on opiates (or are opiates on us?). And the price is right. If you can, get a tester. It's the same stuff, but no fancy box and is therefore less expensive.

I traditionally buy this fragrance for my wife, for Christmas and other occasions. As far as I know, she has been wearing it, forever. She certainly has been wearing it as long as I have known her, much to my delight. It is a light fragrance, evocative of delicate flowers and spices. It never oppresses and is always attractive.

Sensual and sexy this exotic/spicy/Oriental blend of florals (carnation, lily of the vally, and rose), mandarin, and coriander (aka cilantro) (and along with notes of opoponax ["sweet myrrh"], patchouli, and cinnamon]creates the unique and powerful fragrance that is OPIUM.

Here's some hints/tips/suggestions/comments/etc. involving Yves Saint Laurent OPIUM.

1) Three simple words: SMELL BEFORE BUY. . . Always test a perfume out before buying it. . .Perfumes are kinda expensive and you don't want to be stuck with a scent you don't like, do you?

2)My only complaint about OPIUM . . .The fragrance strength is way too intense for my liking . . If a person doesn't like your scent then this might drive them away

3) I'd say this perfume lasts about as long as most perfumes (about 8 hours or so . .

4) This is a pretty sophisticated (and powerful) scent so I'd save it for the evenings and wear something a little less intense during the day (at work and stuff)

5) I'd say this is a pretty adult perfume . . I doubt most teens would like it

WARNING: I'm not sure if this perfume has citronellol which is the main cause of allergic reactions for people with perfume allergies . . .If this concerns you I'd look more into it . . .

I thought this is what I ordered but what I recieved was a 3 unce bottle. Very pretty but the sprayer is hard to distiguish where it is gong to come from. As in sometimes I just spray air. I love the smell of Opium so I will survive.. Next time I will double check the bottle type and size

I've used Opium for 30 years and this is the real thing at as a good a price as you are going to find. It comes in a plain white box and says Tester on the bottle but it smells as wonderful and subtle as always. I had let it run out because it is so expensive but I really feel like myself today with it on.

Incidentally, I read that you should keep your cologne/perfume in a cold, dark place to preserve the scent. So I moved my bottle from next to the shower into the frig. That'll wake you up in the morning.
