4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Guide, July 16, 2004
By A Customer
This book lends to easy reading and can be finished quite quickly. The world of information it includes is priceless. The book includes titles of must have museum career guides and addresses on how to obtain them. The personal stories from the professionals were a great way to learn more about daily job activities, pitfalls, and salaries. I just wish the personal stories would have been more varied so to included entry level positions and specializations. I also wish the author would have gone deeper into the future outlook of museum careers. This book is a must have for those interested in museum careers

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Handy, June 20, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was a history major, wanting to go into the museum studies field. This book lists many different types of jobs and responsibilities in the museum world. Anyone with a history degree or art degree could use this book. Unfortunately it's very hard to get into the business without at least a master's degree. Plus museums are not wealthy, except for maybe the Smithsonian, and people who have those jobs never seem to retire. Plus, museums can get all the help they need with volunteers so rarely hire anyone.

First Sentence:
If you ask some people what they think of museums, they might tell you that the word conjures up images of yawn-stifling tours of quiet tomb-like places, the atmosphere as inspiring as the inside of a crypt. Read the first page
