This review is from: Opportunity House: Ethnographic Stories of Mental Retardation (Ethnographic Alternatives) (Paperback)
I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a better understanding of people who have developmental disabilities, anyone working with this population, and anyone who has a loved one with a developmental disability. The writer has done an excellent job of giving a voice to the people he is writing about, and showing the human dignity of people who have developmental disabilities.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful exploration of the lives of the mentally [handicapped], May 14, 2001
By A Customer
This book is a wonderfully written, fictionalized account of the lives of a group of mentally [handicapped] occupants of Opportunity House. Based upon the author's research, Angrosino really illuminates everyday details and thought processes of the mentally [handicapped] and gives voice and agency to those he observes in ways often absent from works about the disabled.
