5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Language Delayed Children
This video is a great visual tool, especially for language delayed children. Children that need a visual tool to learn like my daughter (who is 3 years old) will love this video. A concept that might come easier for a typical child like opposite is much harder on a child with language difficulties. My daughter is verbalizing more and getting the concepts well. The...

In this volume of Baby's First Impressions they have a woman's voice saying a word and a man's voice says the opposite word. They do this about 3 times for each word and show different things for that opposite pair. Here's a list of the opposite pairs (I don't think I missed any, but it's possible):

In this volume of Baby's First Impressions they have a woman's voice saying a word and a man's voice says the opposite word. They do this about 3 times for each word and show different things for that opposite pair. Here's a list of the opposite pairs (I don't think I missed any, but it's possible):

open/closed, over/under, up/down, hard/soft, big/small, in/out, on/off, front/back, heavy/light, stand/sit, quiet/loud, hot/cold, sweet/sour, full/empty, wet/dry, boy/girl, come/go, left/right, light/dark, a little/a lot, sunny/rainy, loose/tight, day/night, forward/backward, fast/slow, black/white, right side up/upside down, straight/curved, clean/dirty, short/tall, push/pull, happy/sad, thick/thin, old/new, smooth/rough, far/near, asleep/awake, stop/go, yes/no, hello/goodbye.

Here's two examples of what they say for an opposite pair. For Sweet/Sour they say, "Sweet. Sweet strawberry. Sour. Sour lemon". For Clean/Dirty they say, "Clean. Clean face. Dirty. Dirty face. Clean. Clean hands. Dirty. Dirty hands. Clean. Dirty".

After about every six pairs of opposites they have a review. They'll ask a questions such as, "What's the opposite of over?" Then, of course, they'll show "under".

I feel the same way about "Opposites" as I do about the Baby's First Impressions "Sounds". I think it's kind of a waste of time. I'd say get it at the library and watch it once. I can't imagine buying it and having your child watch it over and over standing up or sitting down (*snicker*....that was my lame attempt to make an opposite joke). Read my other reviews for more childrens videos.

A concept that might come easier for a typical child like opposite is much harder on a child with language difficulties. My daughter is verbalizing more and getting the concepts well. The repetition is also a great thing for a child with language delay. I can't tell you how many times we have watch this video. My one year old enjoys the video as well. We got it at the library, but it's a video that I plan to purchase.
