Book Description

November 2002
What Oprah Winfrey has done for American women and families is to open a window on the way we would all like to live our lives. This high-quality pictorial tribute will thrill every person who has watched Oprah grow from a Chicago news reporter to the most influential and highly-regarded woman in America today.

With inspirational quotations from famous writers, poets, stars, and authors, this book of photos and its accompanying text will thrill everyone who knows about Oprah, her leadership, style, sparkle, and determination. It is perfect for any coffee table in any American home, but especially for those fans who have followed her tremendous and well-planned career. From Dolly Parton, Quincy Jones, Susan Lucci, and Mark Wahlberg to Cher, John F. Kennedy, Jr., and Elizabeth Taylor, Oprah has hosted every leading newsmaker of our time sharing their ideas with her thrilled audience.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

In its nearly 20 years on the air, the Oprah Winfrey Show has featured guests such as Michael J. Fox, Cher, Cindy Crawford and Esther Williams. This book assembles a dizzying array of images depicting Oprah with these guests and a host of others. It's a curious collection, with no captions or explanations of why Natkin and Green have decided to publish these photographs now, while the show is still going strong. The poor quality or unflattering photographs portray, among other images, Oprah standing proudly among her audience, microphone in hand; Oprah hanging on the words of Al Sharpton; Oprah laughing with Steve Martin; Oprah leaning over a piano with Michael Bolton; and Oprah playing the guitar with Dolly Parton. Most shots were taken on the set, between 1986 and 1996 (the years Natkin and Green worked as Oprah's staff photographers). Such quotes as "All my life I have fought against prejudice and intolerance" (Harry S. Truman) and "joy delights in joy" (William Shakespeare) are the only accompaniment to these images (aside from brief commentary from Larry King and the photographers). While some fans may find it amusing to track Oprah's various self-transformations over the years, it's hard to imagine many snatching up this attempt at chronicling a few years in the life of a daytime talk show.

5.0 out of 5 stars A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE, November 22, 2002

This review is from: To Oprah with Love: A Photographic Tribute (Hardcover)
I'm a huge fan of Oprah Winfrey. I've watched her television show since it first came on the air. TO OPRAH WITH LOVE has wonderful color photos from many of my favorite episodes. It's filled with pictures of Oprah with tons of celebrities, politicians, sports heros, authors and others. So many priceless moments from her tv career are captured on these pages. It's just like a photo album filled with pictures of your best friends and family! As I first looked thru it I realized how much Oprah has made me laugh, made me cry, made me think, made me wonder and made me happy! I'll cherish this book! Wow!

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting look at the transformations of O, but could have been ALOT better, December 30, 2008

I stumbled on this book at my local library last year and decided to check it out. Two guys who used to work behind the scenes on Oprah's show use 10 years worth (1986 to 1996) of photos to document the evolution of not only the show, but Oprah herself. Some of them have Oprah laughing it up with a celeb guest or looking pensive among her studio audience. Some make her look great (moreso the later ones), while some make her look downright scary (check the Eddie Murphy and Bruce Willis ones). I still didn't get WHY these guys decided to release this book. Inspirational quotes pepper a handful of pages, but don't do much, in my opinion. It's worth a flip through, but I wouldn't be so quick to shell out cash on it. Check for it at your library instead.
