Format: DVD
This is on of eight DVDs featured in a great Time-Life collection of classic country music performances from Grand Ole Opry legends such as Patsy Cline, George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Ray Price, ernest Tubb and Johnny Cash. In addition to some of the biggest stars in Nashville, you also get some of the biggest songs, with classics such as "Coal Miner's Daughter," "Ring Of Fire," "Crazy" and others. Marty Robbins sings "El Paso," Willie Nelson belts out a medley of his early hits, Don Gibson croons "I Can't Stop oving You," and the Statler Brothers give a jaunty rendition of "Flowers On The Wall." Fun stuff!

This disc includes fifteen live performances (and no lip-syncing, as far as I can tell...) along with bonus features such as interviews with various Opry veterans. The material is drawn from old Opry TV broadcasts and other venues such as "The Bobby Lord Show" and other, long-forgotten shows that were the country equivalents of "Soul Train" and "American Bandstand." The video quality is very good and the sound quality is excellent -- it's a chance to see many of the biggest stars in Nashville playing real, honest country music, the way it used to be. This collection is a true gift -- highly recommended! (DJ Joe Sixpack / Slipcue music reviews)

I bought the entire Grand Old Opry series. But this is the one I play over and over again. It brings back such great memories. Donna Fargo, Dottie West, Barbara Fairchild, Patsy Cline, just to name a few. I feel like I am 25 years old again and it is 1973. This is a must buy for any classic country music fan.

Traditional country music is music that one can listen to and enjoy. Instead of electronic amplification, ususally only of guitars and drums, as with todays "so-called" country music, you listen to acoustic sounds, sounds that are sweet to the ear and mind. Traditional country music ofen crossed over to pop, because it was good music. Today's country music bears not even the slightest resemblace to traditional country music. If you want to see and enjoy some of the great entertainers of classic country music, "Opry Video Classics; Legends" is highly recommended. Video and sound quality are excellent. Presentations are dated, but that is not why you buy this DVD. You get it for the great music, and to see it peformed by great country artists.

Joe Sixpack's review is exact but he forgot to mention Tammy Wynette is also here. I found it entertaining and enjoyable. This is early performances of George Jones(I prefer the newer George Jones) and others but does not take anything away. GOOD!!!!!!!!

Great if you love the old classic country. I just cannot get into this Bee-bop stuff they call country today but this album is great.

It is hard to believe that such quality video performances exist. Many of the numbers in this collection date back to the 1960s. Even the black and white performances are clear. The sound is very good, considering the age of the material. The selection of performers and of the songs is very good. I loved seeing a very young Dolly Parton sing Coat of Many Colors and Willie Nelson in a suit and tie. Though all of the songs are available on CD or vinyl seeing the performer adds a dimension that audio alone cannot provide. Even if Country Music is not high on one's list of entertainments, I think most people will enjoy this DVD.
