Great Lens ADAPTER,

This review is from: Opteka HD² 0.20X Professional Super AF Fisheye Lens for Nikon D40, D40x, D5000, D50, D60, D70, D70s, D80, D90, D100, D200, D300, & D700 Digital SLR (Electronics)
I was skeptical when buying this lens ADAPTER but after receiving it i was very happy with it. It easily fit on to my official NIKON lenses. The image quality is great and I was surprised by its ability to MICRO.
The only thing that isn't clear in the description that is very important is THIS IS NOT A LENS its an ADAPTER. It fits on top of you current lens and de-magnifies it by .20x

This fisheye adapter is a good buy for the money, but don't expect miracles. I'm an amateur, hobbyist photographer, and have found that the quality of the photos is not quite what I'd hoped (until now I just thought pro photographers were just being nitpicky about this lens adapter). Don't use it on any important shot; use it for fun, for mood shots. Pictures are not crisp around the edges, and it's noticeable. I don't regret buying it, and I'll use it occasionally, but will not pull it out too often.

You get what you pay for. You can think of this as a large filter that attaches onto your existing lens, so don't buy this if you're expecting it to fit straight onto the body of your camera. I started shooting this year, and wanted to try using a fisheye, so decided to purchase this to see if I liked it. As a $39 piece, I can't say that my expectations were very high, although the 50mm f/1.8D Nikkor lens I use it with has been fantastic, and that was about $100. There is vignetting on the corners, although I do think that's to be expected with a fisheye, and significant chromatic aberration (colored fringing, like a bad 3D model or something). For my taste, the center of the shots (the least distorted parts) where a little hazy, especially because I thought I'd use it for some sports shots, where I would want that action to be clearer in the middle, but the distortion is consistent and good. Because this is a very nice stylized lens, I'll attach some photos so you can get a better idea of my preferences and see a little better hopefully! The bottom line is that, for under forty bucks, is a great entry option to see if you like the feel/style of a fisheye, because it is a very specific lens and $700 for a Nikon 10.5mm fisheye one was well out of my price range. This product says it's "professional"; I consider it far from that. It's an occasional use hyper-stylized toy, so I think as long as your expectations are such, then you'll be happy with it. Couple other things I just thought I'd mention: The "lens cap" on this one is a rubber cap that slides onto the front, which has good fitment, but it's not something that clicks into place or anything (although there is a screw on cap for the back). Also, for some reason, (I think it's the rubber cap), this thing smelled awful when I opened it; air it out for a bit before you put it in your bag...
Edit: Here are two photos I just took with my D90 on a tripod and a 50mm 1.4D lens; the first shot is one with the fisheye lens adapter, the second without. Exact same tripod position, lens, camera, aperture, exposure length, everything. Considering the linear lines of the fence, I think it gives a good picture of what it does. Notice the color differences/chromatic aberration too. Fisheye adapter shot: [...] Same, but without fisheye: [...] I've also included links in the Comments section for photos I've taken with it...

I use a Nikon D40, and as a 'cropped' DX sensor, really wide angles just aren't cheap. Or are they?
I've put it on the 18-55 kit lens, and it makes really circular fish-eye effects, and lets you focus on things that are practically touching the lens. It's fun, it's a neat effect, but it's a little bit of a gimmick. I've slapped this adapter onto a 35mm f/1.8, and the autofocus still worked well until the lens was practically touching the subject, and I maintained most of the speed of the wide aperture. The problem is that the very sharp lens with the adapter in front of it was really soft, and had weird color effects all around the edges. It stayed surprisingly sharp in the very center, but I found that it was kind of limiting to need to put the interesting part of the subject in the center of the frame every time. I don't think I'll use it that much, but 'good' lenses that would allow such wide angles cost at least ten times what this adapter does. Don't take it too seriously, have fun! I take off two stars for really rough image quality (I'm spoiled by a pro lens that I got to borrow once), and add one star for the very low price. Four stars, but only if it's cheap.

I absolutely love it! Just one problem, as mentioned by other people who reviewed it, the edges are a little blurred out, but other than that, amazing! I have a small camera bag for my Nikon D50, so I have to carry it in my purse or even resort to holding it in my hand the whole time, but I guess that's my own problem. It's really easy to put it on your lens, just screw it on, I personally don't need the rings for my nikkor 55-18mm lens. It's a ton of fun to play with, especially when it ridiculously distorts your face, and you could adjust how fisheye-ish you want it to look, at 55mm, it's basically a zoomed out wide angle shot, but at 18mm, everything is extremely spherical, so you can adjust the look by zooming in or out as you please. Definitely worth the $49.

Fisheye photography is neat, fun, and all that. But in reality, it's only useful in some situations. There are people who definitely over-use fisheye shots, and use it when the shot does not call for it...possibly because the amount they spent on the lens. With that said, most amateur photographers will not be able to justify spending $600+ on a fisheye lens. This is a welcome alternative. While it is true (and should be obvious) that the optical quality, and thus the resulting shots, are not as crisp or clear with this lens adapter when compared to a true fisheye lens. But at one-tenth of the price, there's little to complain about.
PROS: + Nearly a 180 degree field of view + Fun for some interesting shots + Great way to get into super wide angle photography with a minimal investment + Adapter is easy to add and remove, and adds functionality to your existing lenses CONS: - Not a real fisheye lens (not that you should expect it to be for the price) - Fair amount of blurring, vignetting, and CA

This a great lens attachment for not lot of money. The attachment is a little kludgy mainly because of the adapter ring which can be lost. If you just ant to be able to have a quick special effect without spending hundreds, I would highly recommend it.
