Nice Filter,

This review is from: Opteka HD² 58mm R72 720nm Infrared X-Ray IR Filter (Electronics)
I ordered this IR filter for my Canon Digital Rebel XTi. It works great when the camera is placed on a tripod with an average exposure time of 5 seconds (on a typical sunny day). Overall, the filter, combined with a custom white-balance setting, produce the results I had hoped for.

Opteka HD2 58mm R72 infrared filter,

well i recently became interested in infrared photography so i decided to purchase a filter for it, after looking around a while i found that the hoya r72 filter was difficult to get in 58 milimeters so i decided to try the opteka.
Anyways I sent them the money and they promptly sent my the filter. I put it on the Galileo II adapter which my camera needs to use filters, and flipped the night shot switch 95% down. This moves the hot mirror out of the way. Right away I was taking excellent pictures in infrared. I highly recommend this filter, however if you have a camera that is unconverted for infrared photography, or you dont have a camera like mine, the Sony DSC-H9, which features a nightshot switch, which allows you to move the hot mirror out of the way allowing you to take both color and excellent infrared photos, you may be disapointed as your pictures will be blurry, and you will not be able to do nearly as many things. such as take pictures with any amount of motion. Also if you plan on using this for a dslr, you will need to use a longer shutter speed as the hot mirror is much more efficent, for good reason.

First of all, you need a lot of sunlight to produce a decent quality photo. A good color shot is going to require some photoshop manipulation, but you can put your digital camera in BW mode and take some cool shots without having to do any additional steps. Make sure your camera is IR friendly before buying as well.

I think it is funny reading the user reviews who give this a one star because they don't grasp the concept of infrared photography. Actually it's more sad then funny because they are taking away from the products rating but whatever. Anyway this filter works just as good as the Hoya R72 filters as I have owned both.

So, regular photography getting a little boring? Want a different perspective? This IR filter will help you with that. Here's the rub. The IR filter blocks all light except the 720nm band. So? Aim your camera BEFORE you attach the filter! Great photos are waiting!

Only Used For a Few Weeks,

I used this product for a few weeks before dropping it into the Grand Canyon. Better to drop a filter then my camera=0)
I have a Canon Rebel XTI and used shutter speeds from 10 sec. up to 3 min. I got some hot spots with my 28-90mm, but none with my 80-300mm. I will end up ordering another one. I really enjoyed playing with it and thought the results were great.

I was not certain that the IR filter would work,as most digitals have very limited sensitivity to IR, but the canon S5IS is one that it works well with. Delivered quickly, and great product.

I got this to use with my Olympus E-500. I am still working out the kinks but I like my results so far. The only limitations has been my camera. Long exposures adds a lot more noise. I am looking for the sweet combination of settings that will work with my camera. If you have an Oly E500 do a web search for "Olympus IR for the E500" and there are a few good sites.
I put up one of my photos that has been one of my best efforts. I used Picasa to do the simple conversion. I could tweak it better but its late. You will need lots of light (and right now its way to hot when the best light is available). Exposure time depends on your cameras sensitivity to IR. Please read up on your camera before ordering this and complaining that your shots are not what you wanted. Its not the filters fault if your pics turn out bad :-) I am not sure what the difference in the glass is between the Opteka and the Hoya. The Opteka costs half as much. I do recommend this item.

Works with Kodak Z812IS,
This review is from: Opteka HD² 58mm R72 720nm Infrared X-Ray IR Filter (Electronics)
This filter will work with the Kodak Z812IS camera with the filter and lens (52mm Lens / Filter Adapter for Kodak EasyShare Z612, Z712, Z812, Z1012, & Z8612 IS Digital Camera) adapter. To take pictures with it you will need to either adjust the camera settings through the manual mode, or simply set the camera to low ISO mode and turn the flash off. For best results I also recommend setting the camera to black and white instead of color as not doing so will generate a purplish image.
As advertised, this filter will filter out long distance hazes and take stunning landscape pictures. Combine this filter with one of the Opteka HD2 telephoto lenses (I use this one Opteka 2.2x HD² Telephoto Lens for Kodak EasyShare Z612, Z712, Z812, Z1012, & Z8612 IS Digital Camera) for AMAZING results. Depending on your camera, it may take a couple of days for you to figure out how to configure the camera to use this. Some research on web forums will help, but the best teacher is experience. Get out there and start snappin' pics.

Does the job, neat results!,
By
This review is from: Opteka HD² 58mm R72 720nm Infrared X-Ray IR Filter (Electronics)
The people who are saying this filter is defective should read up on it first as it filters out everything but the near infrared light at 720nm. A nir 'pass' would be a better name as an ir filter and UV filter both do the opposite for their types of light. I have not yet been able to try it out during the day but was able to take some semi-interesting moon shots and a few pictures inside with the exposure time set to 25-30 seconds. Focusing is difficult as the light that gets through the filter focuses earlier than 'natural' light. I have been able to focus without the filter and then tap the focus to where I want after 3 or so exposures. It takes practice but the results are neat!
