4.0 out of 5 stars Opteka Battery Grip for Sony Alpha A100
I like the grip for the camera. The camera is easier to take pictures with in the vertical position. One good feature is it has shutter release buttons at both ends which is good if you are left handed. The only thing I don't like about it is that the bottom of it was made universal, so the power switch has two settings, one for this camera, and one for another camera...

The vendor gave me very good service but I had to return the battery grip because the batteries drained much sooner than what I expected. They lasted no where near the 3500 shots that was reported. I even wonder if this was a defective item. I also felt that it made the camera too heavy and I decided that I would be better of buying a back up dedicated battery instead

The only thing I don't like about it is that the bottom of it was made universal, so the power switch has two settings, one for this camera, and one for another camera. I wish that it was a bit more product specific. Make sure you use good batteries with the grip. Generic regular AA batteries dont cut it. I am using 2500mah batteries with it now and it works great.

Don't know actually how much battery life I've gained using the battery grip compared to the A100's battery. Uses way to many batteries. but if it's suppose to last way longer I guess it's worth it. Adds heft and bulk to the A100. Like the Multiple shutter buttons. gives you various grip options. Sort of gives the A100 a Pro Digital Camera look.I also have the A100 Body Armour. Which is great by itself but as of now!!! not compatible with the Optima BPG. Had to modify a $40.00 Body Armour to get it the way I like. Bottom Line so far I like mine. It's on the camer always I'm for it. The Downside for me is Bulkiness it adds to the A100. I'm not a Pro and the Ideal of carrying a Bulky camera around all day does'nt suit me. I can deal with the added Heft. I guess I'll see how long I can deal with the Bulk when I go on Vacation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extra stability, July 22, 2010
This review is from: Opteka Battery Pack Grip for Sony Alpha DSLR-A100K and DSLR-A100 (Electronics)
I really like this camera grip. I only bought this grip for pure stability. I found the sony alpha 100 does not have the best design for gripping the camera. So I was looking for a battery grip that would give me better stability as far as gripping the camera is concern. I personaly do not use the compartment/components on the battery pack (for now). I use the compartment to store some of my batteries from my external flash. My pictures are much sharper now due to the fact that I have a much better handle on the camera. This might not work for everyone, but it works for me.

When I hold the grip in vertical position, it is too wide to hold tightly. Also, product is extremely heavy when all 12 AA batteries are installed. I understand it has to be as wide and heavy as it is to handle so many AA batteries, but I need to be able to securely hold my camera. Also, my flash bracket doesn't fit onto my camera with this battery grip installed. =( Hopefully I can return this item...
