This grip is "ok", but has a few disappointments...

1. Ergonomics are poor. I have large hands and find the grip somewhat uncomfortable. Those with smaller hands will probably find it even more so. The aft face is on 90 deg angles and is uneven due the battery pack clasps, it's not something you can wrap your hand around.

2. The grip is shipped in the 20/30D configuration. You have to reconfigure it for the 5D. Not a huge task, but one of the parts on mine didn't fit well, had to do some sanding...poor mfg tolerances.

Other than that it does the job at a good price.

ordered and item came in packed nice in the box... Opeteka is not as well built as the original canon .. it only has 2 shutter control on both ends! so you can shooot from vertical position from either side. unit's battery compartment is quite flimsy..the instruction does not tell you to remove the battery latch on my 40D!... either way. we don;t pay the CAnon price. the plastic on the unit is a bit on the cheap side and the buttons on it is kind of not in par with the better units

Overall I think for what U pay the unit is fair.. it works well!

I have been using this product as a photojournalist for a college newspaper for a while now. I got this not being able to afford the Canon grip. Well, the extra money I would have payed probably would have saved me a LOT of haste. The batteries died quickly, and even with a full charge I often get the 'battery dead' sign here. Apparently it has something to do with the battery compartments being loose or something, because if I futz with those for a while I can come close to what I want. I have missed a number of good shots just because a full battery suddenly moved to 'empty' in a split second. I'm not really satisfied at all.

I opted for this brand because of the price, but sometimes you get what you pay for. For whatever reason I couldn't keep the two batteries fully charged. I would charge them, put them in the camera and the next day they would need recharging after fewer than 50 shots. I tried other brands of batteries in the battery grip but the same thing happened. I finally stuck this model in a drawer and bought the much more expensive Canon brand. It works!
