Opteka Flash Diffuser for the Nikon SB-600 & Olympus FL-36 External Flash Units

This flash diffuser would be great, I'm sure, if it actually fit the Nikon SB-600. However, it doesn't, so it's pretty worthless. It slips off very easily, even when I thought I had a tight seal. Don't buy this.

I'm using this diffuser on a Nikon SB-600 and it simply refuses to stay on the flash, so I had to duct-tape it on. I see that it also supposedly fits the Olympus FL-36, so maybe it was really designed for that flash and stays on better.

Even though the SB-600 has a built in wide-angle diffuser, that pulls out and folds over the flash lense, I thought this diffuser would do a better job of softening the flash. Perhaps a PC monitor would have shown something different, but the camera LCD display on the Nikon D200 showed the Opteka diffuser didn't do very well. It was about the same as having no diffuser in place as far as shadows and harshness. But the color rendition is what convinced me to bury the thing in a camera bag pocket, as a last resort to a broken standard diffuser. The standard SB-600 diffuser was superior in evening out the light and provided better colors.

The diffuser works as described. The only complaint I have is that it is very snug and very little of the rim fits over the flash head. I've had it pop off several times when it's bumped. Does the job and it's cheap.

I have seen other photographers use this little piece of plastic. The price was good, just to check it out,but the shipping is ridiculous! I could not see a difference in my photos at all

This was an easy purchase for me. Works well on my SB-600. Did a photo shoot for a party in a bar and night club. Pictures turned out great. Diffuses the light well.

I go through quite a bit of these... They always work well, just need to figure out a better way to secure it:) To me, it is the speed of replacement that is important - no issues with this seller.

So I had gotten this diffuser for my SB-600 already hearing that people had problems with it falling off, thinking that maybe I will get lucky and it won't fall off. Well it does and doesn't . When I put it on my flash it stays on but the moment I start to move the head of the flash it starts to fall off. But it isn't anything that a piece of gaffers tape or maybe velcro can't fix. so 4 out of 5.

I'll be the first to give it 5 stars. I have had absolutely no problems with this diffuser falling off the SB600. In fact, I leave it on all the time. I use for photos less than 20 feet to the subject. If you practice and experiment, it can look like natural light. For the price, it reduces the harsh light of direct flash.

I leave it on while stored to act as a flash protector. And I did drop my flash once to the floor. Diffuser took the direct impact and no damage visible or to the flash!

It performs well enough, but I kind of wish it snapped on rather than sliding on. Other than that, it suites my purposes; and for the online price, you can't beat it.
