Good, but not the best,

This review is from: Opteka LP-E8 2000mAh Ultra High Capacity Li-ion Battery Pack for Canon Digital Rebel T2i Digital SLR Camera (Electronics)
I have used the opteka batteries for a couple of months. I do a lot of video shooting, where they last 2/3 of the original canon battery (around 40-50 minutes). When I bought them, the original canon LP-E8 where $60. Now the price difference isn't that big. The really big downside of this batteries is that they don't have the chip necessary to tell how much juice is left in them. So you get a jump from full battery, according to the camera, to a red blinking warning. If you do a lot of live events (as me) this is a total NO NO.Hopefully there are third party batteries on ebay that come with the chip and canon batteries are dropping the price. Right now, i would skip this opteka ones.

I have had no problems with this battery whatsoever. I was a tiny bit hesitant to use a battery that was not from Canon but for the price it was impossible to resist. I saw a $70 1500 mAh Canon battery at a well known electronics store after I purchased this $13 2000mAh battery. I smiled. The battery charges fine, holds a charge fine and for $13 you cannot beat it. Someone told me they wouldn't buy a battery like this because they don't trust the quality and prefer to get the Canon battery and not deal with worrying about it failing. To that I say buy 4 of these for about $53. You save almost $20 and even if one or two fail you still saved your self money and gained a battery or two. That being said I only bought one and have had no problems with it.

I had used Opteka batteries with my T1i and they seemed to perform just like the Canon batteries so I took a chance on them with my T2i.So far they seem to be working just like the Canon batteries with no communication functions crippled. I'll order a couple more soon.

These batteries work very well...and are at least as good as the stock battery for a fraction of the price. If you are doing a lot of DSLR video like I am, you will find that battery life goes pretty quickly and you need additional batteries when you are in the field. I highly recommend you try these, I keep two spare charged batteries with me when I am in the field, especially if I am capturing video.

Do not buy this battery. Does not fit properly, you might bend the camera leads. I returned it.Buy the "Maximal Power DB CAN LP-E8 Replacement Li-Ion Battery for Canon LP-E8" (do a search on amazon, it costs about 15$). This is a perfect fit as the OEM.

Not compatible with the T3i,

This review is from: Opteka LP-E8 2000mAh Ultra High Capacity Li-ion Battery Pack for Canon Digital Rebel T2i Digital SLR Camera (Electronics)
I have a T3i, and the battery specified for that camera is also an LP-e8. But this Opteka one is not compatible with the canon battery charger. Its possible this battery may work with the camera, but there is no way to re-charge it.Note: The battery is listed for a T2i, and based on the reviews it probably works well for that model. Thought I will leave my comment on Amazon for anyone looking for a LP-E8 spare battery for their T3i.

If you're on the fence, wondering if these are worth a gamble - read this short review.I have seen the battery meter fall below 1/2 charge one time in 6 months. That was after a ton of use where I had PLENTY of time to charge them. I use a $40 battery grip on my Canon T2i / 550D. This is at least my third order of batteries from Opteka. I bought extra so I would never have to worry about running out of juice. Not one bad battery so far. If I ever have a complaint, this review will be the first to change. At $17 a battery, there's not much to complain about, though. Both of my canon batteries are used for back-up. That basically means that they've never been used except for the week I first get a camera. I am in no way saying the canon batteries are bad - they are great. The Optekas seems to run out of juice quickly once the battery gets low. That's when you grab another one (or two for gripped), and keep shooting. To be honest, I haven't really compared that to canon batteries for reasons listed above. Canon batteries may not exhibit the same behavior because of additional hardware. 5/5 for a good product at an outstanding price. I'm pleased with the Optekas. -Mike

Doesn't fit in camera!!!!!,

This review is from: Opteka LP-E8 2000mAh Ultra High Capacity Li-ion Battery Pack for Canon Digital Rebel T2i Digital SLR Camera (Electronics)
This battery has changed the way I read reviews. It seems to get okay reviews, but what I failed to see was 2 reviews out of the 9 1 star reviews that mentions that the battery does not fit the camera. It doesn't click into place and it is narrower than the camera. If you do manage to jigger it in to 'work around it', the camera door will not close. An $11 battery isn't worth damaging the door on a $900 camera. I'm okay with cheap, I'm not okay with defective. I consider it a great lesson. 1) always read the specifics of 1 star reviews, 2)dont dink around with 3rd party manufacturers for some stuff and 3) I'm most definitely not wasting my time trying out the Opteka battery grip. If they can't even make a knockoff battery work, how could the grip be decent? My attempt to save a buck cost me many more. I won't make this mistake with the grip which will cost far more to ship and return than this did.

Good value for batteries,
By Midwestern Dad (Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Opteka LP-E8 2000mAh Ultra High Capacity Li-ion Battery Pack for Canon Digital Rebel T2i Digital SLR Camera (Electronics)
I purchased a pair of Opteka LP-E8 200mAh batteries for my Canon T2i. They're rated as having a little more capacity than the battery that came with the camera. I haven't done a formal test, but they seem to last at least as long as the Canon battery--for a lot less money. The one nit is that connectors on one of the batteries is a little fussy. It needs to be jiggled to make a connection on the Canon charger (yes, you can use the same charger that came with the camera). Likewise, the battery needs to be jiggled a bit to fit just right in the battery compartment of the camera. However, it's easy to tell when it's seated properly--it pops out if it's not. While this is a minor annoyance, it doesn't seem to affect performance. The other battery of the pair I bought works absolutely fine. For the price, I can't complain. I wouldn't hesitate to buy these again.

Bought this a few months ago, used it a few times, and now it holds very little charge. Also the voltage is lower so the T2i does not allow me to edit video with it. False claims on the voltage and capacity. I attempted to contact the seller regarding the performance warranty, but no reply. Junk! Stay away! I have bought other generic batteries for other devices and never had such a bad experience.
