Product Description

Size: 25mm to 37mm | Product Packaging: Retail

An essential tool for extreme sports and dramatic action shooters. The 0.3X Ultra Fisheye Adapter offers an extreme fisheye effect and a high degree of barrel distortion. It exaggerates depth by pulling nearby objects closer and causing distant objects to recede into the background. Advances in high-index / low-dispersion optical glasses, new barrel materials, and exotic anti-reflection coatings, along with the latest in computer-aided-design / computer-aided-manufacturing, are combined to produce lenses of unprecedented quality. Diamond-cut from crystal-clear, water-white optical glass, Opteka lenses are ground and polished to a precise precision. Because all Opteka lenses are designed and manufactured with the highest possible degree of consistency, you can swap lenses mid-shoot with no discernable variation in color or effect. The unprecedented purity, color saturation and repeatability of Opteka lenses virtually eliminate the need for lab color timing corrections caused by other lenses. This puts more creative control where it belongs - in your hands. Opteka lenses stand up to the most rigorous demands on the stage and on location. Opteka's hard anti-reflective (AR) coating offers protection specially formulated to resist flaking, peeling and scratching. This proprietary AR coating also reduces light loss and flare to less than 1% per surface, compared to untreated glass which has a light loss of 4% per surface. Opteka lenses allow you to shoot with total confidence!

I was put on to this product by a friend of mine that owns the Century Optics Baby Death Lense. This one is almost identical and for only 1/3 of the price...It's easy to install & take out and it has a better fisheye than the old lense I used (Opteka .43X HD). I recommend this to anyone looking for great fiseye effect on their videos.

I had high hopes for this lens. It is beautiful--lots of thick, heavy, multicoated lenses--quite impressive looking and feeling. It does give a true 180 degree fisheye view. But thats where the goodness stops, at least with my camera system. I have a Canon s95 with a 37mm adaptor thread mounted on the front. The S95 is a beautiful camera, but it doesn't have the best macro in the world--I think it's close focus is about 6cm, which caused problem #1. Mounted directly on the camera with or without the included spacer ring, the camera cannot focus close enough for this lens to work. I have to hold the lens about 3 inches from the camera to get a focused picture. No problem, I thought, as I had recently purchased a 37mm closup filter set. It was either the 4x or the 10x lens that I could screw on the back of this to get a focused image. Now I have a working fisheye! Wait--I can clearly see the lens flare hood blocking about 10-20% of the frame. so I removed it for a wider angle and full frame effect.

Unfortunately, the quality is really poor for photos. The entire image is soft, and the outer third of the image is really poor quality--lots of chromatic aberration and really low detail. Granted, I am looking at an image through a 10 megapixel camera image. It's also possible that the closeup lens that I paired with the fisheye is deteriorating image quality a little, but I just don't think the fisheye has the resolution power I want. So I think that's why they market this for digital camcorders--the HD resolution is about the quality of a 1 megapixel image, I believe. So it's not falsely advertised, just know that the image quality is not good enough for most photo applications.

This lens is absolutely incredible. It is amazingly wide, with alot of distortion, not alot of vig, and the quality is superb. I use this lens primarily for filming skating and action sports. The only thing I did not like about this lens was the lens shade, even if you put it on correctly, the left side of it gets in the shot. You can easily unscrew the lens shade, or do what I did, and shave it down with a power sander. Overall amazing lens for the price. If you have a camera with a 43mm thread mount, buy this lens.

I just got the Skater Package and am super stoked! Colorado jus got dumped on so we've been shootin constantly. The fish eye really enhances my shots and the x grip makes filming follow shots an ease. The only beef I have is that little light is a piece of crap, it doesn't even work. Everything else though is awesome, I feel like a pro now with all this gear. Its gunna be a good season :)

I am glad I purchased this fisheye. There is alot of competition between this lens and the century optics death lens. The death lens is quite expensive though, so I feel that it is more of a professional lens. If you are making videos for fun (I am using this lens for filming skateboarding with friends) then this lens is for you.

It's probably the widest lens for its price, and it produces a great distortion effect, pulling the subject closer and making the background recede.

The optics are clear and the lens produces a nice effect. You can fit a lot into the scene. However, I noticed a slight color degradation throughout and blurring around the edges, so it is not focused throughout. If this is the kind of thing you want, great, but I would like my scenes to be crisp originals, and add some vignetting in post. The lens is solidly constructed and feels sturdy, but is likely to weigh down your camcorder a fair bit. And if overtightened, it's a pain to get off.

All in all, the lens is a solid performer for a backpacking movie maker, but there are certainly nicer ones. If you've got a good camcorder, this lens comes in at a good price given its intended market. I say go for it.

I've had mixed results purchasing lenses for my Canon Vixia but this one was a great deal. When I first put it on, I was actually disappointed because there were sections of the hood showing up in frame. This was easily rectified by loosening the screws and adjusting the position of the hood. I recommend hooking it up to a TV and adjusting the hood so nothing shows on the edges (TV shows a wider section than the view finder).

Also, the image stabilization causes the edges to show during sudden changes in position, so you'll have to turn this off, otherwise you'll get a peek of your lens edges.

Well worth the money. I'll use this even for photos, compared to purchasing a DSLR fisheye lens for $700.

This fisheye lens went way beyond my expectations for 60$! First off, it looks really nice and makes you feel like a pro. This lens has a huge amount of view and really gives an almost 180 degree view! On my Sony XR-100 I get absolutely no vignetting and even after I added the spacer ring to increase the range of view I still don't get any! The quality of the image is definitely HD and I can zoom in about halfway before all focus is lost. It is definitely perfect for skate videos. It doesn't seem cheap at all. The sunshade works great and really reduces the glare from light. I really have no complaints!
