The Opteka Timer Remote Control for Canon EOS Digital XTi is just as they market it, an alternative to its big brother that only works on the more expensive bodies. Since Canon only makes those, they have decided not to build one for the amateur bodies - so Opteka did.

This one works as designed for my Canon EOS XTi and I have used it numerous times in the past few weeks that I have had it. Since I am an amateur photographer, it is taking me a bit to get up to speed on all the intricacies of what this device does for the photographer, however so far - I am impressed.

I also have the Opteka battery pack and two batteries, which has held up wonderfully. If you are looking for a good product with this type of functionality, you wont be disappointed with your purchase.

I purchased this to go along with my Canon G10 to do time lapse photography and it works perfectly. This is a great easy to use tool.

The quality is as good as the Canon timer for the 40d and the operation feels the same in terms of programming.

I bought this timer remote for my Canon Rebel Xti due to the fact that canon doesn't make a timer remote for its lower end cameras. I am very happy with this device. The only negative aspect of it is that is doesn't have an off switch. In order to conserve batteries I have to remove the batteries from the device. It works just as advertised and I have used it hundreds of times. If you are looking for a nice timer remote for you camera, this is the right product for you. The backlight is great for low light photography. Its pretty much exactly like the Canon TC80-N3 Timer Remote except it has the small stereo jack which fits into the remote input jack of the lower end Canon Models.

Product does exactly as they say it does once I got rid of the manual they sent with it.

In my opinion the manual was totally useless but the product was great.

If the manual had been more useful I would have rated it a 5 star but Alas not good enough. Have taken many great moon shots.

got this remote mainly for time lapses and for astrophotography and it has fully met my expectations for both. Extremely simple to use and so far battery life hasn't been an issue for me and I've used it for close to a year without taking them out.

Purchased for use with a Canon Xti. Works just fine.

One main issue.. it has no off switch. The manual says that it will constantly be on as long as the batteries are in it. I have no idea how long 2 AAA batteries last, only had it for a week, but it seems odd to me that there is no "off" setting.

It is a little bigger than I thought it should be, but still fits in the camera bag with my lenses and flash. No idea why it couldn't be half the size it is tough.

Excellent remote, As many said - the only problem is NO on/off switch.
That makes this an awesome product. Hope they include it in next release.

I found that this gadget was very easy to use and it linked up perfectly with my Canon digital Rebel XTi. It is pretty versatile and it can be used as a delayed shutter release controller. And, it is really STURDY! However, there are two minor tengineering flaws in my opinion: (1) There is no "on/off" button, which results in some battery drain over time, and (2) The cord is too short - the device would be easier to operate if the wire were at least three feet longer. I consider these to be minor shortcomings - I am very impressed with this. I would recommend it to someone else.

Could be a little more sturdy but oh well. Perfect product. Does what it is supposed to very very well. I love taking interval shots and then combining those in photoshop, or having a larger delay time, or having an overall longer shot for lightpainting and star trails.

Using this item currently with my Canon Rebel T2I has done the job for sure... good on batteries... great price. So much cheaper then the Canon one... seems to work just as good. Make-sure to read the manual there is a couple key things you need to know. Only problem I have with it is it not having a OFF SWITCH! bah! You have to just take the batteries out really annoying. Other than that its great.
