Forget $50 cables - this thing is just as good. The plug pops into the USB jack of the camera, and controls the shutter (and video recording). The button is fairly easy to press, though could be a tad larger. The lock is there, though since the button is flush, I don't see myself using it. The cable is fairly flexible though my only minor gripe is that the cord could be a little longer. And yes - this does work on the Olympus E-P1 for photo and video.

Returned the item because it wouldn't fit either my Olympus E-420 or E-620. From the looks of the connector, I think they sent me a Nikon or Canon shutter release by mistake. The return process was simple though. Wound up buying the Olympus OEM one just to be done with it.

My order for the remote shutter release came quicker than I expected. This remote shutter release will help me to avoid camera shake when I take photos of the fireworks on the 4th of July. I use a tripod but still had some camera shake which did give interesting zig-zag patterns in some of the fireworks but shots will look better without them. I would definitely order from this seller again. Thank you for great service.

I kind of wish that I had bought the one with the longer cable, but this is fine. It's long enough.

Perfect for slow shutter speed shots from a tripod. Works just like the name brand!

Let me just say,"There is NO port on my sp-590 that this product will connect to". Also,the tech I talked to at Olympus tells me he has never heard of an Olympus product called an "EVOLT". If the "disconnect" is at my end, someone please let me know and how to fix it.
However, Amazon is a first class operation which I would use again.

Product works as advertised; received in timely fashion; packaged nicely resulting receiving an undamaged product; length of cord sufficient for most uses.

The first one I got did not work but I contacted the vendor and they sent me a knew one that works perfectly. I use it regularly for long exposures to reduce camera shake. I would not be without my remote shutter.

I went out on a photo shoot about two weeks ago and the remote is not working again. It was at least a month or more before that that I last used it, so the second one worked almost a year. I'm used to things lasting longer, but for the price, what can I say?? I changed my rating down to three stars because of the short life.

I purchased this wired remote along with the Optek wireless remote for an Olypmus e-620. My first unit killed my camera and I had to do a factory reset over the phone with Olympus support. The second unit has sometimes worked and sometimes not. It no longer has a place in my camera bag. Whereas the wireless unit works perfectly.

I don't use this shutter release very often but it has always worked flawlessly with my E-510. Since nothing's gone wrong with it and I can't think of any improvements that should be made to it, I don't have a whole lot to say. It's been reliable and seems plenty sturdy.

UPDATE** 10/31/11
I upgraded to an Olympus E5 and had hoped this shutter release would work with it also, but it doesn't. Thought that tidbit might help someone out there. The shutter release still works as it should with the E510. I've had no problems with it so far.
