I have an occasional need for a remote shutter release for my Olympus E-3. I'm a semi-pro photographer. This cable works great! You can't beat the price. I only use Olympus OEM products for all the acessories that affect image quality, with good reason, but I would recomment this cable to my fellows.

You would think it would be hard to get this wrong, but Opteka managed to do so. I bought this for use on an Olympus E-1, and like a fool I didn't try using it for 5 months. When I just tried it, it did not work - not at all. It fits the connection, but very loosely, and when screwed all the way down, the connector end wiggles side to side very loosely and wiggles in and out as well. As another reviewer said, it doesn't make a tight enough connection to work. Unlike the other reviewer, I couldn't even get mine to work if I pushed it in while pressing the button. I got nothing. And yes, I had switched the camera into Remote Mode. What garbage. Oh, and mine also had a label on the outside of the box with an "OP" covering up something else. Not sure if that has anything to do with this not fitting properly and not working, but maybe. Want one that works, buy a genuine Olympus is my suggestion.

The olympus remote release is about a $50 item - if all you need is the connector to interface to a project (lightning trigger, etc) then you need just the connector. This unit has the connector for many of the olympus cameras.

Tip - OLY uses a 3 pin system - ground, and 2 switches - the first is the "half press" switch which must activate first - I just put a toggle on that one to ground so that I can prepare the camera for the shot - focus, etc.

The second wire is the shutter - keeping the half press wire grounded the camera will take the picture immediately after the shutter wire is grounded.

This makes it easy to setup - some systems require that the half press be released between shots, but most systems will let you keep it grounded and take multiple shots.

Remote shutter control works fine once connected to the camera. Plug to camera is very touchy. Plugs into the camera and then you screw a holding clip to hold it solid in port on camera. Need to be very careful to line up the threads.

Is a good buy for the price but needs care in use.

Notice that this product (sold to me by 47th street photo) does not list a Opteka
product number. I bought it based on 2 good reviews. Mine arrived in a box marked
Opteka with an "OP-02" (but the "02" is pasted over something on the box with a round
adhesive patch). On the connector side, mine does NOT look like the picture. Mine
has a screw down mechanism that doesn't screw down tight enough to seat the 3 pins
firmly. Hence it doesn't work unless you hold it down, pushing it into the camera while
you press the shutter release button. This is obviously not an acceptible solution.
Contacted 47th street, they have not gotten back to me (yet). But it IS Christmas week,
so I'll have some patience.....

I am trying to use it on an Olympus E3.

I use Olympus equipment and I own both and E510 & an E3. As part of their policy of making money on accessories ( I assume) Olympus does not make such things as remote release interchangeable between their equipment and they charge a fair amount of money for them.

I use shutter release or timed release often because of slow shutter speed photos. This one works as advertised and it's price is very affordable. What more can you say about a remote shutter release?

The opetka sitter release is a great addition to any photo tool kit. I have found it to be reliable and easy to use.

I purchased this (from Amazon) because I wanted to trip the shutter on my camera to catch hummingbirds at the feeder. My camera is an E-300. I got the item and there was no place to plug it in. What I determined after the fact is that you have to have the Olympus HOLDER BATTERY HLD-3 to use this cable. Fortunately or unfortunately, the cost of this item is so near the fee to return that it is not worth the effort to return. Maybe some day I'll get the battery holder and can use it.
