4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, November 20, 2006
By many slides to scan... (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews
i scan many 35mm slides at my work. last year we purchased a semi-highend slide scanner by Nikon for around $1,000. i have found that the pictures of the slides that the Opteka HD² Slide Copier takes are far superior in sharpness and color then our slide scanner.

the Opteka HD² Slide Copier for Canon EOS Digital SLR Cameras was easy to use with my Canon EOS 30D and 20D, and i had no problems with the cropping out of certain parts of the slides as another review says.

i highly recommend this as a cheap, fast way to scan your slides.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ability to shot in RAW makes it well worth the price., February 26, 2007
By Bradley Mayes (Houston, Texas) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have purchased 2 scanners labeled as "photo scanners" both with slide attachments both over $300.00. The HP produced poor results, the Canon was acceptable but you had little control over the scan. Being able to shot the slide in RAW gives us an incredible amount of flexibility!

We now use this device for all of our slide "scans". The initial mage is not better than the Canon but the ease of manipulation and repair is pretty impressive. RAW is just easier to work with than a JPEG....

Highly recommend to those who want to rescue their old slides. On a digital camera with the ability to shot in RAW you will get MUCH better end results than a typical "photo scanner".

5.0 out of 5 stars Opteka slide copier works great., December 31, 2007
I used a Canon Rebel XTI camera, with the Canon 55-135 telephoto lens. It required 2 step down rings, a 72-58, and a 58 to 52 to connect to the Opteka (about $15). The zoom lens allowed me to frame the slide precisely, and it easily focused correctly. Set the lens to manual focus (so as not to stress the auto focus motor in the lens). I put a 100 watt incandescant bulb about 1 foot from the back of the Opteka for light. This produced about a 3.2 meg digital rendition of each slide. You can do about 20 slides per minute. It takes a lot longer just to sort, group and align (right side up, correct face of slide to front) the slides than to insert the slides in the Opteka and shoot the picture. I built a little jig with stops at each end to limit the travel of the slide carrier so the slides always stop in the same horizontal position. With this, you dont even need to check the alignment of the the slide when you insert them- just insert slide, push the Opteka slide carrier over, and shoot the picture.

Great product. Shipped promptly by 47 Street Photo.

Great product and easy to use. Requires frequent cleaning to keep dust/dirt at bay but that is to be expected.
