I am returning the item and will save for a better model.

You essentially need two things with a stabilizer: a gymbal to allow the system to move, and the ability to balance the system so it won't wiggle and tilt.
Jon
This is really hard to make balance, after 3 hours of trying I couldn't get it to fully balance.

When you compare this to other camera stabilizing products out there, you'll see this one is very inexpensive. When I took it out of the box I was reminded that I chose the cheap competitor. You essentially need two things with a stabilizer: a gymbal to allow the system to move, and the ability to balance the system so it won't wiggle and tilt. This product has problems with both of these:

The gymbal: The gymbal on this product is not super-smooth, it drags. A good quality gymbal will allow the system to spin for a long time before eventually slowing it to a stop. This gymbal allowed the product to spin less than one turn when I tried it. That's a lot of drag. This means the camera will be turning everywhere my hand turns. Also, the handle has about 10 degrees of movement in any direction before it hits the housing. So the handle must be held pretty much straight up.

Balancing: Balancing is very limited. There is no left-right adjustment on the camera mount. There is one weight provided, about two pounds, that you can slide up and down along the midline. If your camera is not two pounds, you'll have to use something else to balance your camera. Luckily the weight is easily removed. A bolt, wing-nut and washers may do the trick. Mark the position your camera is in once you have it in balance so that you can save balancing time next time you attach it.

Pros:

1. It feels very solid, and with some tinkering and good luck, it can be balanced. Tinker with the weight, and be patient.

2. The price is very low.

And so:

It will never give you the super-smooth shots we see on youtube where the cameraman is running but the camera is getting smooth shots. But, the price is very low and they don't say you get what you pay for, for nothing.

The product I received was exactly what I expected. A very simple, small device to help me keep my shots steady. It isn't that difficult to find the right balance - at least it wasn't for me - but it does get a bit heavy after a while which makes it harder to use for extended shots. Also, I wish it would've come with more instructions as to how to use it, since it only comes with instructions on how to assemble and balance it.

Overall it is a good product for its price, and a good buy it you want to make your videos look more professional, but it is not the absolute best solution to avoid ugly shaking of your camera when recording. There are better steadicams out there, albeit bigger, more complicated and more expensive. This is a good starting point.

Built well, works well, easy to use (takes a little practice, thats all). I'll make comments on the previous reviews...It's NOT too heavy...if this device is heavy for you then start lifting some weights and get some strength (wimp). If you spend $600 then expect the device to spin around a 100X. It has enough movement to provide smooth video. I ran around the house with it and it was beautiful everything I ever wanted for only $65 bucks!!! For those who cant operate it out of the box...get co-ordination or learn to walk/run ....it's easy easy easy easy......Before I was going to purchase this product some of the reviews scared me...I took the chance and was very glad...Works well with my canon xa10 and my tiny powershot s95....jb

No matter how perfectly you balance this stabilizer, the gimbal will transfer your motion to the camera, preventing you from getting that cool "glide or fly" look. It's just not a smooth, fluid gimbal. And it has a very limited range of motion which means if you try to track down low the stabilizer will hit your arm.

I would say invest a little bit more money on a glidecam or slidecam if you have a dslr. This stability gadget is probably only good for compact cameras. Shipment came very quickly, that's the 3 stars are for =)

Only get this if your camera is around 2.1 lbs or it's next to imposible to balance. The handle had a little wiggle in it cased by poor manufacturing. Looks like they tried to fill the gaps with glue, which seems to still be wet. Must be using the wrong kind of glue. So I go to tighten the screw, and it snaps. I'm off to the hardware store to reengineer the complete peace of junk.

I have purchased this item and find it not useful at all. I mean it does have a nice solid build but as far as functionality, it does great with my 50mm prime on a Canon t2i but any lens above that this thing is all over the place.
I attribute that to the fact that this steady cam is just to damn light. It is definitely not 2lbs as they state and even after many attempts to get a proper balance the moment you begin walking it just goes all over the place... I was thinking about taking it apart and adding a longer bar at the bottom with heavier weight to see if that does the job..
But like I said with my 50mm prime lens this is nice therefore I see the potential but in it but it is a shame that I have to reverse engineer it and rebuild it to get it to do the job it doesn't do coming out the box...
This has a good build for the most part and hopefully with the adjustments I intend on adding to it hopefully it won't be a total waste of my money...
