4.0 out of 5 stars Great lens for beginners
This was the first fisheye lens I have bought, the main factor to buy this lens was its price. I wanted to try my hands on fisheye as I had never tried it before and what better place to start with very little investment. I used it with my D40 and found the results very satisfactory.

2.0 out of 5 stars ehhh, not thrilled
I am using this lens with a Canon Rebel XS. I screwed it onto the end of the 18-55mm kit lens.

Pros
-fits well
-looks cool
-gives expanded angle of view (not truely 180 deg though)
-center area is in focus (AF seems to work)

Cons
-unacceptable blur around edges, even while zoomed in enough to crop the vignetting...

This review is from: Opteka .35x HD Super Wide Angle Panoramic Macro Fisheye Lens for Nikon D700, D300, D200, D100, D90, D80, D70, D60, D50, D40, D40x, D2HS, D2XS series (Electronics)
*This is a specialized lens. The macro lens is used for taking close up pictures of small objects (insects, pennies, etc), and the fisheye lens is used to take pictures whose results appear as a fisheye, eg real estate pictures, nature photography, sports, etc, etc. This lens does both, which is a good thing.

The lenses capabilities have been listed by other reviewers. I think that, for the price, it takes pretty decent pictures. I only have one problem though; when taking the 'fisheye' pictures, (the round pictures that resemble the eye of a fish) sometimes, there is a streak of light, barely noticeable, that penetrates the portion between the normal camera lens (18-55) and the macro-fisheye lens. I have tightened the lens to try and eliminate this, but a keen observer may point this out! As for the issue with the flash (pictures come out badly when flash is used, and you should not use the flash while using this lens), I saw that, even with minimal light, the D60 was able to use its internal flash to light up the picture!

For those complaining, please note that a Nikon fisheye lens costs $699, and a Nikon macro lens is [..]. To take pictures using the original Nikon macro or fisheye lenses, similar to those this particular Opteka lens takes, you would need to purchase the two lenses separately at more than [..]! (or even more)

Unless you earn your living in specialized photography, or are a perfectionist to the T, then this lens is good for beginners, amateurs and semi-professionals, and about [..]cheaper!

Please look at the pictures posted above submitted by reviewers, and their website recommendations to be able to see exactly what type of pictures are produced by this lens, if you are not exactly sure. Here is my link I found [..]

5.0 out of 5 stars Okay fisheye for a good price, January 19, 2009
This review is from: Opteka .35x HD Super Wide Angle Panoramic Macro Fisheye Lens for Nikon D700, D300, D200, D100, D90, D80, D70, D60, D50, D40, D40x, D2HS, D2XS series (Electronics)
Although this isn't the greatest fisheye lens on the market for $30 you shouldn't expect it to be. I personally own a Nikon D60 and the fisheye fit perfectly on both of my lenses. I don't know what the other reviewers were having problems with because mine works and fits great.

It does squeak when you screw it on the lens which is really annoying but, i can't expect much for what i paid.

I bought this for my wife's D60. It fits just fine on the end of the lens the camera came with. I don't know what the other yahoo's problem with it is, but it works great. Just screw it on to the end of your lense. You may need an adapter, but mine didn't.
You'll have to turn off your flash if you're using the stock one since the light will hit the fisheye lense since it's so long.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, especially for the price, April 2, 2009
This review is from: Opteka .35x HD Super Wide Angle Panoramic Macro Fisheye Lens for Nikon D700, D300, D200, D100, D90, D80, D70, D60, D50, D40, D40x, D2HS, D2XS series (Electronics)
I bought this lens along with the Opteka 52mm 10x HD² Professional Macro Lens Opteka 52mm 10x HD² Professional Macro Lens for Nikon D60, D40, D40X, & D50 Digital SLR Cameras. In side by side comparisons of the pictures from the macro lenses, this one appears to be equal to the task, plus you get the fisheye all for the same price. Though the description of the fisheye notes a 180-degree view, it appears to be SLIGHTLY less than that when using my 18mm setting on my Nikon lens (not complaining, just noting).
Overall, I strongly recommend this product if you're a amateur, even a serious one, looking to get a cheap but sturdy and high quality macro/fisheye.

It is a fish eye, but it is super blurry. I wanted to experiment with a fish eye lens but now wish I had saved up for a dedicated lens rather than an attachment.

4.0 out of 5 stars You can change better this lens!!!!, November 4, 2009
This review is from: Opteka .35x HD Super Wide Angle Panoramic Macro Fisheye Lens for Nikon D700, D300, D200, D100, D90, D80, D70, D60, D50, D40, D40x, D2HS, D2XS series (Electronics)
Length:: 0:19 Mins

I've got this semi fisheye lens 4 months ago. If you open the lens inside there are 3 lenses and everything you have to do is just to rotate the middle one lens. You have to replace the front part of that lens, should be back and the previous back should be front(rotate). And you will get wider angle and NO BLURED RESULTS on the edge. I am sending you samples and you will see the results before(the original) and after changing the middle one lens. Check the aberration after changing the midle lens much smaller aberration on the edge.

Screwing this lens on a 50mm lens gives you about a 28 mm (as far as I can estimate). On a 28mm you start to see a little fisheye effect, but nothing like in the examples. I have ordered the proper adapter ring to try it with my 17mm lens, will check back with the results. But you can not just screw this on a 50mm and get fisheye effects. It's a wide angle lens, but it's not that wide.

5.0 out of 5 stars fisheye with nikon d3000 18-55mm, June 8, 2010

This review is from: Opteka .35x HD Super Wide Angle Panoramic Macro Fisheye Lens for Nikon D700, D300, D200, D100, D90, D80, D70, D60, D50, D40, D40x, D2HS, D2XS series (Electronics)
had high hopes for this fisheye attachment, and it was everything i expected. its def worth the $30-$40 it cost compared to purchasing a real wide angle lens for $700+ ..the pictures are a tad blurry around the edges but its fun for just messing around and taking "cool" aesthetically pleasing pics. screws right on to the lens that came with my nikon d3000 kit (18-55mm). came with a little velvet case/bag and lid type caps for the lenses. the macro works decent, although i don't find much use for it - at least not yet. love this product however, would certainly purchase again

It's a nice lens for playing around with the spherical shots. It's not professional quality and it is a macro, but it does a great job is you keep those 2 facts in mind. Think of it as a great into for wide angle/"fisheye" lens.
