I was considering the Instapark 10 Watt Folding Solar Panel and the Goal Zero Nomad 7M Solar Panel.

I bought this panel on sale for ten off list since most inexpensive Chinese is very similar if not identical. That said, the differences are often in the details, and that's the case here.

First impressions:
1) Appears as sturdy as the others. Seems to be EVA type overlaminate with aluminum backing.
2) It stinks. (Same is said for the Instapark). They must be using the same ingredients they dumped in the drywall years ago. Leave it outside in the sun, opened, for a few days, and it'll cure and clear out.
3) USB Ports - orientation - see below.

Connection is 2 USB Ports only. Instapark is like this. The Nomad 7, big plus, has several types of outputs and comes with cables. USB only means if you're charging batteries you're going through conversion to the output port - and another conversion to the battery charger circuit. That's a lot and if those aren't highly efficient circuits a lot of power can be lost. Often a weak point on less expensive designs.

For performance I'll be evaluating it over the next few days to week to see how it performs. That will be a bit more difficult with USB only output. That as if it had solar out like the Nomad then the panel could be tested separately from the USB ports (which are often the weak point).

Major Cons:
1) The USB Port cover, and cable, shades the cell, greatly reducing performance. It is oriented towards and too close to the lower solar panel.

Works great for iPhone. Doesn't seem to work with my iPad. Highly recommended for iPhone what I was looking for to keep cell phone charged while camping. Not exactly lightweight for backpackers.

Charged both iPhones half way in a couple of hours. (It would charge even when overcast, but was much slower) Pretty slow for the iPad (around 10% every hour of direct sunlight) but would say it was charging when in direct sunlight.

Tip: It didn't work nearly as well when I sat it on the dash of my car and had the sun go through the windshield. I wouldn't have thought it would have made a difference but it did.

I've only used this twice to test it out and it worked just as expected. Charged my cell in 2 hours. Only negative is the plastic coating was half off on two panels and crinkled up on the third. Ended up just removing it.

I think this is worth the price. I put it I full sun for 45 min and my S3 cell phone went from 66% to 86%.

Although still waiting to try this product, I am sketchy on its performance. The clear plastic coating on ALL the panels is warped AND this product came WITHOUT any instructions or documentation of any kind. Had I read that from another customer previously I might have reconsidered buying this particular item
